🏡 Understanding Aged Care with A & D In Home Care!

Thank you to Faithe, co-owner of A and D in Home Care, for speaking at today's NBN meeting.

Faithe shared valuable insights into My Aged Care, funding options, assessments and the support available to help older Australians remain independent at home.

With waiting times potentially stretching up to two years, her key message was don't wait until you need care to start the process!

This week at NBN we heard from Richard from Stainbusters, who shared his journey into the business and some great insights into the carpet cleaning industry.

Richard has been with Stainbusters for around four years and spoke about the satisfaction of transforming carpets customers often think are beyond saving. Stainbusters specialise in carpet and stain cleaning, upholstery, tile and grout cleaning, as well as flood water extraction, servicing from Lithgow through to Parramatta, Oran Park and the Hawkesbury.

Richard also shared how being part of NBN has helped build his confidence and communication skills, both personally and within the business.

A great NBN meeting this week with G*i Hawthorn from Penrith C*D Corporation.

G*i is preparing to retire from Penrith C*D Corp, with Mike stepping into the role. Thankfully, G*i assured us she’ll still be around! 😊

We heard about the many ways Penrith C*D Corp supports local business through networking, workshops, business connections, Shop Local initiatives, events, advertising and place-making — all under the motto “Stronger Community, Stronger C*D.”

There was also plenty of discussion around what’s ahead for Penrith, including opportunities from Western Sydney International Airport, new developments in the C*D, Winter Sports World, Hoyts LUX and Poles Pies at Manufactor.

G*i also shared an update on Pink Up Penrith, now in its ninth year, which has raised more than $541,000 to support local cancer care.

A special moment came at the end when G*i thanked NBN for its support of Penrith Community Kitchen, reflecting on the 2018 Melbourne Cup Breakfast that raised $38,000 and helped the Kitchen continue operating at a critical time.

Thank you G*i for everything you’ve contributed to Penrith, and congratulations to Mike as he takes on the role. 👏

NBN member A and D in Home Care is hosting a fun and meaningful Picnic Day to raise funds for the Alannah & Madeline Foundation .

It will be a great opportunity to enjoy some good food, games and company while supporting an important cause.

Funds raised will support the Alannah & Madeline Foundation and its work helping protect children from violence and creating safer, happier futures for children and families.

This week at Nepean Business Network we heard from Chris from Penrith Valley Pest Control, who shared the story of an unexpected career change that turned into a job he genuinely loves.

After nearly 14 years working as a travel agent, Chris took a chance on a very vague Facebook job ad almost 10 years ago. Pest control was certainly not where he expected to end up, but he quickly discovered how much he enjoyed the variety of the work, meeting customers and their pets, and being part of a close-knit family business.

Chris spoke about the importance of regular pest control and particularly termite inspections, which are recommended every 12 months. Catching termite activity early can prevent significant damage and make treatment much easier. We also heard about some of the more unusual tools of the trade — including a specially trained termite detection dog!

Behind the scenes, Chris plays a major role in keeping the business running smoothly, managing bookings and schedules, looking after social media and exploring ways AI can improve and speed up report writing.

Mark also took the opportunity to recognise Chris’ contribution to the business over the past decade, describing him as the one constant through many changes and challenges and someone who plays a huge part in everything customers see from Penrith Valley Pest Control.

Thanks Chris for a really interesting presentation and a great insight into an industry most of us probably don’t think about until we need it!

This week at Nepean Business Network, we heard from Sarah Bracken from Checker Bookkeeping, who shared some practical advice on keeping business finances accurate, organised and useful for decision-making.

With more than 20 years’ experience in finance and accounting, Sarah started Checker Bookkeeping around three years ago and now works with businesses across Penrith and beyond. Services include bank reconciliations, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, Xero setup and training, reporting, ATO assistance and much more.

Sarah also explained that bookkeeping support doesn’t have to replace doing it yourself. Checker Bookkeeping can provide a second pair of eyes, carry out month-end checks, help improve processes and automation, and make sure your accounts are properly reconciled and ready when needed.

A great practical presentation with plenty of useful tips for business owners. Thanks Sarah for sharing your knowledge with the NBN group!

This week’s NBN meeting featured a presentation from Councillor Reece Nuttall, who gave members an update on a range of issues affecting Penrith businesses and the wider C*D.

Discussion covered parking, C*D development, housing, flood evacuation planning, the night-time economy and Council’s plans to make it easier for businesses to deal with different departments. It was a great opportunity for members to raise questions and discuss some of the practical challenges facing local businesses.

Reece also spoke about his upcoming Penrith Business Forum, featuring Dr Danielle Wood, Chair of the Productivity Commission, with discussion around cutting red tape, improving productivity, GST distribution, payroll tax, skills shortages and other issues impacting business growth.
