If your current service person tells you that it's normal for newer evaporative units to continuously drain water while running, then he or she isn't worth paying for.

If it's an older system, maybe, but bleed rates need be to be setup as per manufacturer specs.

Newer systems incorporate automated drainage systems, whether its a Seeley unit that drains every 3 days or based on water quality, or a coolbreeze unit that drains every time you switch the system off so it refills each start-up with fresh water

Many people are wasting water without even knowing it... We can replace perished drain valve seals, and faulty drain valves, so that your system is running as it's designed to.

Maintenance is an important part of everything we own, and everything that "turns" to help make our lives easier each day, especially during the summer months.

The importance of a start-up inspection prior to summer, ensures your AC will happily function and keep you cool when the weather heats up.

A recent inspection of a coolbreeze unit, and it was found to be in very bad shape. Several years between services, and the filter pads had split and collapsed into the unit.

It's nothing some TLC can't fix and the unit was up and running the very next day, with a service clean-up, new solenoid and some brand new filter pads aswell.

It's been a very long time since we last posted, but that doesn't mean we haven't been busy.

I will endeavour to post several photos in the coming days.

But with the hot and humid (not normal for Perth) summer lately, coupled with the up-coming hot weather this weekend, I took the time today to ensure our 4-legged friends were also ready for the hotter days ahead.

Visiting the kennels in Canning Vale for some repairs to an industrial evaporative unit, it reminded me that it's not always about the people, but our furry friends too.

Do you know when you had your unit serviced last...? Pre-Summer servicing and repairs are stlll available towards mid November, but spots are booking fast.

It is recommended to have your evaporative airconditioner serviced annually to ensure it is well maintained and able to keep up with the peak summer demand.

Throughout November, servicing is only $150*+ gst per unit, ($225*+gst for 2 units) and this includes a comprehensive function test of your system (pre and post clean), pad sanitation and flush and full wash and antibacterial clean of the unit.

* Prices valid within 10km of Canning Vale, otherwise extra fees may apply

It is recommended to have your filters replaced periodically, approx every 5yrs, but this time frame is heavily dependant on water quality and regular maintenance, and could fluctuate anywhere from 3-6years.

Now is the time to have your old pads replaced so that you are breathing fresh air again.

Autumn shutdown servicing is now available.

Now that the cooler weather is settling in, it's time to consider closing up your evaporative unit for the winter ahead. If you didn't have your unit serviced prior to summer, then now is the time to have your unit inspected.

At Evaporative Aircon Services, we offer services during Autumn which is beneficial to all brands of units, but especially units that don't have automatic drain and flush capabilities.

Basic service; $165 (gst inclusive)

Full unit inspection, operational check, flush and drain, asset condition report and winter cover installation (if supplied by owner).

Also don't forget to turn off the water supply to the unit during the winter months.

Photos prior to a recent service of an 18yo Braemar unit in Thornlie. While speaking with the owners before the service began, they mentioned that they have the unit serviced annually, the pads had been replaced 2yrs prior, and they have had the water pump replaced twice in previous years.

However once I had assessed the unit, the numbers told me a different story. The unit itself was in great condition, everything worked fine, but it didn't appear that the unit had been cleaned or properly serviced for about 5yrs at least. Dirty was an understatement...!

And the date stamp on the tornado pump was the 13th August 2004... So in fact the pump had never been replaced at all...!

Do you trust the service person you have working for you...?!

Always request the old parts from the service person, if they are indeed replacing parts, they shouldn't hesitate in handing them over.

It's been such a busy few weeks, I haven't posted in quite a while.

This well maintained coolbreeze unit was a breeze to service.

All it needed was a new square-section o'ring installed on the counterweight dump valve, as the old one had become brittle, and a new set of genuine coolbreeze eco-pads.

These eco-pads come highly recommended for people with respiratory or other issues as they do not have the usual smell like other branded pads.

Definitely worth paying a little extra for quality!

Another service completed yesterday. The owner of this Coolair unit didn't know when the unit was last serviced. The same muddy water has been pumped around the system for years.

Apart from a little bleed off while operating, the systems sump hadn't been drained, cleaned and freshwater re-filled in a long time. Not all systems are fitted with auto drains, this is where seasonal maintenance comes in.

Apart from a clean out and service, this unit is good to go... pads were flushed, but will require replacing next time.

Another service completed today, and another happy customer. This Braemar unit was looking a little worse for wear when I opened her up, but after some TLC (New Seeley Chillcel pads, and some additional replacement parts) she's as good as new and all ready to fight a few more summers ahead
