Their Driving Industry Conversations series is bringing real industry voices to the table to help shape the future of training, workforce development and vocational education in automotive. Connection, culture and community were at the heart of a recent First Nations Morning Tea hosted at South Regional TAFE Albany's Learning Centre.

The gathering provided a relaxed and welcoming environment for apprentices to connect with their mentor, Nicole Porteous, over morning tea and engage in meaningful conversations.

Attendees shared yarns about their work experiences, life outside of work, community events, and on-country stories, fostering cultural connection, peer support, and stronger relationships across the learning community.

The morning also welcomed TAFE lecturers, an employer, a job seeker, and representatives from Impact Services, creating an inclusive space where everyone could connect, learn, and support one another.

A wonderful example of collaboration and community engagement, the event highlighted the importance of creating culturally safe spaces that strengthen connections and support the success of First Nations apprentices and trainees.

Last week, our mentors headed to Geraldton Regional TAFE for a Meet & Greet with apprentices and lecturers — and what a great turnout it was!

With around 20 participants joining the session, including First Nations apprentices, the conversations were open, genuine, and full of energy. It was a fantastic opportunity to answer questions, build relationships, and show our apprentices that they have a support network behind them every step of the way.

The best part? We've already locked in six one-on-one follow-up sessions with apprentices to provide personalised support on their training journey. 💪

This is exactly why we do what we do at Apprenticeship Support Australia - WA and we can't wait to keep building these connections across WA.

What does a career in manufacturing really look like?

ASA WA recently attended the Empowered Women In Trades (EWIT) Talk & Tour at the Coca-Cola Europacific Partners facility in Kewdale, gaining valuable insight into the scale and variety of careers within the manufacturing sector.

The site operates five production lines, produces 28 million cases each year, and employs 125 people across a 20,000sqm facility.

Beyond the impressive numbers, the tour highlighted the range of skills and roles required to keep a manufacturing operation running. From maintenance and quality assurance to logistics and operations, it was a reminder that there are many pathways into industry through apprenticeships, traineeships, and vocational education.

The visit also reinforced the growing opportunities for women in trades and manufacturing, with initiatives like Empowered Women In Trades helping to increase visibility of careers in sectors where female representation continues to grow.

At Apprenticeship Support Australia - WA, we're committed to helping apprentices, trainees, job seekers, and their families better understand the career opportunities available across a range of industries, while supporting greater participation and awareness of opportunities for women in trades.

Marlissa always loved cars and engines. Maddie wanted out of the classroom and into a workshop. Lilly-Anne grew up getting her hands dirty fixing things with her uncle and pop.

Three young women finding their direction through WesTrac Cat school-based traineeship program, working on site one day a week while finishing school and TAFE.

With the support of Apprenticeship Support Australia - WA mentors, they are building real skills, real confidence and a professional network most people don't find until years into their career.

Our team recently had the pleasure of attending the KDCCI Career Expo in Karratha, where Industry Training Consultants Crystal Moko and Marie Aquino, alongside mentor Lovelygee Maclagan, represented Apprenticeship Support Australia - WA.

With over 1,000 students from four local high schools filling the expo floor, it was an incredible opportunity to connect with Year 10–12 students and share how School Based Traineeships (SBTs) can kickstart their career journey - earning while they learn!

Beyond the students, the event was a wonderful chance to network with local Karratha businesses, strengthening the partnerships that help us connect young people with great opportunities in their own backyard.

A huge thank you to KDCCI for hosting such a well-attended and impactful event. We love being part of moments that shape futures! 💼✨

Last week, Apprenticeship Support Australia’s Kimberley Mentor Support Officer Adam Selby joined carpentry and engineering apprentices at North Regional TAFE’s Broome campus for a networking lunch and catch-up session.

The event brought together 16 apprentices from across the Kimberley region — including four First Nations apprentices — with some travelling from as far as Kununurra. 💎

The session gave apprentices the chance to connect, share stories from the worksite and chat about how things are going both on the job and at TAFE. Adam spent time catching up with the group, answering questions and talking through the mentoring support, apprentice incentives and career pathways available throughout their apprenticeship journey.

Opportunities like this play an important role in helping regional apprentices feel supported, connected and confident as they work towards completing their training and building their careers. 💪
