With it being international women’s day not that long ago, it’s only fitting to share the stories and example of how some influential women in business in Australia have risen to the top of their game.
1. Manuri Gunawardena - is the chief executive of clinical trials start-up HealthMatch. HealthMatch helps to show Australia and the world the value of online health tools.
Reflecting on this year’s international Women’s Day theme “Break the Bias”, Gunawardena says sharing stories of success is important to empower other women founders.
2. Kim Teo - co-founder and CEO of Mr Yum. Kim is one of four co-founders of Mr Yum, a Melbourne-based mobile payments platform that allows diners to scan a QR code, view a menu, order and pay from their smart phones.
When it comes to breaking the bias Kim encourages fellow women to act you want to be treated. Walking into conversations thinking there’s going to be levels of discrimination.
3. Caroline Bowler - CEO of BTC Markets. Australia’s largest cryptocurrency exchange.
Caroline explains how 70% of crypto traders are men, while 30% are women, mentioning that there is a perception of the crypto industry being extremely blimey and that you have to be a software developer or engineer to get in when it’s simply not the case.
It’s crucial that women get as much variety in the voices and people working in blockchain that goes beyond just the male and female, binary and non-binary, religion, culture or skin colour.
These are just three examples of women in Australia who have seen their own success in business and have been able to break certain biases.
