The MV Baltazar may be one of the more unusual-looking vessels to be chartered by South32, but the two eSails at its bow are state-of-the-art.

The Baltazar is the latest in Klaveness Combination Carriers' fleet of caustic bulkers and was launched by Rita Saffioti MLA, Deputy Premier of Western Australia, in Fremantle last week.

It will service our Worsley Alumina refinery in south-west Western Australia, and features two 27m-high eSails that use suction sail technology to generate lift and up to seven times more thrust than conventional rigid sails of the same size.

The ship also benefits from an air lubrication system, which injects a continuous layer of microbubbles under the ship’s hull, reducing frictional drag and also easing the load on the engines.

As a result of energy-efficient technologies, and trading efficiency, the Baltazar is expected to deliver 35% lower carbon emissions per ton transported compared with conventional tanker and dry bulk vessels operating in trades to Australia.

Congratulations Bailey on this well deserved recognition! 💜 As a Starlight ambassador, Bailey has helped to brighten the lives of countless seriously ill kids across Australia and make the Purple Haze game into the special event that it has become.

This year alone, the Purple Haze game raised over $300,000 for Starlight - bringing the total raised by the initiative to over $4 million. South32 is proud to have supported the Purple Haze since 2019 - and it is inspiring to see such incredible leadership from Bailey and his teammates driving remarkable results for such an important cause.

With his work with Starlight just one part of his efforts, Bailey's leadership and tireless work for the community makes him a very deserving recipient of the award.

Tonight, two women from South32 are finalists in the 2026 BHP Women in Resources National Awards, following recognition as award winners at their respective state and territory awards.

GEMCO Community's Jeanine Brown, finalist for the Inclusion and Diversity Champion in Australian Resources Award, has spent more than 20 years working in the mining industry, supporting people through occupational health, injury management and wellbeing. One of the biggest lessons she's learnt is that you should never put a limit on where your career can take you.

Following the completion of the sale of our aluminium value chain assets, our business will be simpler and focused on high-margin, long-life assets, with a clear pathway to substantial growth.

Earlier this week, we released a business update highlighting how our business is changing and the opportunities ahead of us.

Our portfolio will be simpler and stronger, with 55% expected production growth from committed projects now under construction in copper and zinc – which both have critical roles to play in emerging technologies.

It's an exciting time at our large-scale, long-life Hermosa project in Arizona. Construction continues at the Taylor zinc-lead-silver project, federal permitting is complete and work is continuing on the potential integration of the Peake copper deposit and exploration of other prospects on the land package - here's a quick update on some of the activity on site:

For the residents of Magobing Village, in South Africa's Northern Cape province, reliable access to water has been a longstanding challenge.

A new borehole upgrade supported by South Africa Manganese, our manganese operations in the region, is helping change that. With upgraded infrastructure, solar power and backup systems, the project is delivering a more sustainable water supply for residents and supporting long-term community development.

For Magobing residents, the upgrade means more than improved infrastructure. It means greater confidence in accessing a resource that supports everyday life, health and wellbeing.

ICYMI: In FY26 our base metals business drove strong earnings growth and shareholder returns.

We recently released our Financial Results and Outlook for the year ended 30 June 2026. Cannington and Sierra Gorda’s operating performance enabled the Group to capture the benefit of higher prices across copper, zinc and silver, supporting increased earnings and cash flow from our base metals business.

As we continue developing the Hermosa project in Arizona, we're also investing in the people and skills needed to support its future operations.

We've recently celebrated the graduation of the first cohort from our Electrician Certificate Program and welcomed students into a new Automated Industrial Technology (AIT) program. Together, the programs are helping prepare people for careers in skilled trades, automation and advanced industrial technologies.

Delivered in partnership with the Santa Cruz County Provisional Community College District and Pima Community College, the programs are creating pathways into technical careers while supporting Hermosa's goal of building a predominantly local workforce.

South32 has invested around US$1 million across the two programs, fully funding tuition, training and equipment for participants.

Congratulations to all graduates and students embarking on their training journey.

Another important milestone for our Hermosa project in Arizona last week: the signing of the Mine Plan of Operations by the U.S. Forest Service completes the federal permitting process and authorises activities on federal Forest Service land.

As the first mining project added to and completed through the federal FAST-41 permitting program, Hermosa has helped demonstrate how major projects can progress through a rigorous and transparent federal review process.

Hermosa is currently the only advanced mine development project in the United States with the potential to produce up to five federally designated critical minerals, including zinc and manganese, that are essential to energy infrastructure and advanced manufacturing.
