1970 Porsche 911T Targa - $85,000

This attractive, matching numbers 911 is a 2-owner from new car. It was originally purchased in Florida, USA by a naval officer who brought the car with him when he emigrated to Western Australia in 1987. At that time, cars had to be converted to RHD for use on the road after a 6-month grace period. Having originally been ivory, the car was repainted at the time the conversion was done.

The car has its original 2.2-litre engine and was specified new with 5-speed gearbox, Recaro sports seats, sports differential and Comfort equipment, all confirmed in documentation from Porsche.
Twenty years ago the present owner purchased the car.
The upholstery was redone several years ago in leather with correct perforated centre panels. The car had new carpets fitted at the same time.

Six years ago the engine was rebuilt and it runs very well as a result.
There are few items which could be criticised from looking over the 911 – all cosmetic.

It has recently benefitted from a major service by a highly respected Porsche specialist firm.

The owner recognizes that the car is not a concours example, is converted to RHD and hence isn’t worth the vast amounts that some sellers ask. However it’s a matching numbers, 2-owner example, with a recent engine rebuild, new interior and is very attractive inside and out. And very realistically priced.

1979 Jaguar XJ12 Series 2 - $19,900

This car was sold new in Perth and has remained here ever since. When sold, it was priced at $38,500, when a new Holden Commodore cost $7192. The XJ12 was loaded with features, including power steering, air conditioning, power windows, twin fuel tanks and the wonderful 269bhp ultra-smooth V12 engine.

1979 was the final year of the Series 2 XJ12 and a total of 429 were made in that year. Only a handful would have been delivered new in Perth that year.

The present owner of this car has had it for over fifteen years. For most of that time he has had another Jaguar for everyday use and has enjoyed this car for cruises, club events and display days. It has done 148,000km.

As had been done with the previous owner, the car has been regularly maintained by a particularly respected Jaguar specialist company. The owner of that company advises that the car has always been reliable and beyond servicing and usual maintenance, had only one major job, completed recently. That work was the whole fuel injection system rebuilt, including new wiring at a cost of $12,000.

The interior of the car has fitted lambswool seat covers over the factory cloth upholstery, which is in good condition. Front and back, it’s a very comfortable car.

This Jaguar starts well and immediately runs beautifully smoothly. It’s a real pleasure to drive. The engine pulls well, gear changes are excellent, the steering feeling is good and brakes work well. It’s very clear this has been a cherished, properly maintained example.

SOLD: 1984 Mercedes-Benz 280CE

The lower, pillarless coupe bodywork brought glamour to the well-respected W123 series – known for their robust construction and very competent on-road manners.

These were expensive cars when new in Australia, this car retailing at $39,585 plus options - in the case of this car, factory Bundt alloy wheels and metallic paint.

This car was delivered new in New South Wales. Finished in Ch*****ne, with cream coloured upholstery, highlighted by Zebrano woodwork in the dashboard and console, it’s an attractive combination.

The service booklet shows regular servicing with lots of additional notes about what oils were used and at what mileage. It shows the car was in WA by 2015.

There are copies of invoices with the car from this period, showing work done to suspension, steering, electrical items, cooling system, and servicing.

The present owner purchased the car in 2022 and has enjoyed it ever since. Work done in his ownership has included rebuilt front brakes with new discs, pads and hoses, the fuel injection system came in for attention and a new fuel accumulator fitted. Various other minor items attended to. The last service was in June 2026.
The result is a car which starts readily and runs very nicely. The engine and gearchanges are smooth, with good performance. The ride is good – comfortably handling speed bumps - and brakes work effectively.

Inside, outside and underneath, the car presents well, with minor marks but no major issues evident. A high quality Lorinser wood and leather steering wheel has been fitted. The original wheel goes with the car.

This stylish Mercedes-Benz has clearly always been well looked after which is why at 320,000km it remains a good driving, very sound and attractive example. These W123 cars have an enviable reputation for longevity, are easy cars to drive and fit very well in the classic car scene.

FOR SALE: 1970 Marcos GT 3-Litre V6 - $47,500 REDUCED: $44,900

This rare Marcos has the largest engine offered. While the early GTs had 4-cylinder motors and a novel wooden chassis, later models such as this car had a steel chassis. Many Ford, Triumph and MG components were used in the construction of the Marcos, typical of low-volume manufacturers of the period.

This car was sold new in New Zealand and finished in Tangerine – a great early 1970s colour. When the car was relatively new, a replacement engine was supplied by Marcos under warranty. The owner in NZ changed the Ford Zodiac gearbox for a 5-speed unit.
In the year 2000 the car was sold to a friend of the first owner, who shipped it to New South Wales. In 2006 the car was advertised for sale and sold to a British car enthusiast in Perth.

Some work was required to make the car suitable for licensing, listed in the full description.

After nine months of use, the owner decided it was time to have the bodywork and paint redone. The work by the company handling the job took five years. New interior trim work was done, a new steering wheel and finally new number plates “1970 V6” were added.

Then there was a ‘sorting’ process during which many new parts were fitted and the car drove better than ever. Details in the full description.

The car was used fairly frequently, often appearing at car club events and displays, where it always gained a lot of attention – the amazing shapeliness of the car being pretty unique.
Sadly the owner passed away and the car is now on the market. The odometer shows 61,900km, which is likely to be correct.

The car starts easily and runs well. The eager V6 engine in a 910kg car gives the Marcos plenty of performance. The handling feels sharp, as the low-slung seats feel almost over the rear axle. It’s not hard to see why these cars are sought-after for historic racing.
This is certainly a rare car anywhere in the world, with 250 examples built between 1969 and 1971.

With just three owners and a comprehensive refurbishment in recent years, this is an excellent opportunity to add an unusual and rather special classic sports car to your garage.

FOR SALE: 1964 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Roadster - $169,000

Few cars have the cachet of a E-Type – one of the great sports cars of all time. This car was delivered new in the USA, as were over 80 percent of E-Types. A 1984 registration slip shows the owner was William JD Marshall-Gratrix, who is still living in Reno, Nevada, aged 94 today.

In 2011 the car imported to Western Australia arriving early in 2013. The buyer was a Perth doctor who was a serious car collector.
In between purchase and shipping, the car was subject to a lot of restoration work in Reno. The Jaguar had been in reasonably good condition, rust-free and tidy but was the subject of detailed restoration work.

It joined a collection with three other E-Types, each a different version. This car was the oldest E-Type in the collection. Most aficionados believe the Series 1 E-Type to be the most collectable.
The decision was made to convert the car to right-hand-drive, as many Australians are uncomfortable driving a left-hooker. Fortunately this is a straightforward conversion on an E-Type, involving no cutting or welding, with a kit readily available (as with all E-Type parts).

The 3.8-litre E-Type motor, with triple SU carburettors (recently rebuilt) puts out a healthy 265hp (198kW) in the early E-Types, weighing just over 1200kg, giving plentiful performance.

In very good condition, this is not a concours trailer queen, but a good usable, presentable example. The body and paintwork of the car remain in very good condition. The car has a rare removable hardtop, in good condition, but no soft-top. One could be fitted without much difficulty.

The car starts easily and runs smoothly, having recently been serviced in preparation for sale.

If sold to a Western Australian buyer the numberplates JAGE1 can go with the car.

The wonderful ‘60s style, tremendous performance and enduring collectability are the elements of an automotive icon.

FOR SALE: 1980 Citroen 2CV6 Club - $26,900

One of the most recognizable cars in the world, the 2CV was celebrated for its robustness, economy and comfort – a rare combination for a low-cost car.

This especially fine example was built in France for the UK market, so right hand drive. The service booklet shows the car was delivered new to in Folkestone, Kent on June 5 1980.

The car was then sold to an Australian, on the Gold Coast. A few years later, it sold to Western Australia. The new owner had enjoyed holidaying around Europe in one in his youth and had wonderful memories. He sought the best 2CV he could find.

The car was kept in top condition, always garaged and used for recreational drives only. It was always thoroughly well maintained and regularly serviced. Invoices and the service booklet show the car’s maintenance history.

Unfortunately he passed away, but his wife held on to the beloved 2CV and occasionally made use of the car – only on sunny days. Today the car has covered just 42,673 miles (at the time of the photo session).

The service booklet and invoices in the car’s history file dating back to 2015 confirm this very low mileage is correct.

The Club was a ‘luxury’ version of the 2CV. It features the larger 602cc engine, with a more plush interior and distinctive interior and exterior trim.

All aspects of this car are in excellent condition. The external panels, paint, trim, lights, etc, are all excellent. The same goes for the interior – all very well kept and presented. And under the bonnet is the same – showing how good a carefully maintained, low mileage example of a 2CV can be.

The car drives very well too, exhibiting all the character that 2CVs are famous for.

Parts support and club network support for 2CVs is immensely strong worldwide, helping enjoyment of these cars.

The factory original books and a car cover go with the 2CV.
This is an extremely good example of the breed and very realistically priced.

FOR SALE: 1960 MGA 1600 Fixed Head Coupe - $47,500

This is an exceptionally nice example of MG’s rare fixed head coupe. In addition to the obvious fixed roof, there were several significant differences for the Coupe. These changes helped make a far more secure, cosy car, better suited to long distance or poor weather travel.

Looking at the production numbers shows this is a very rare car. In 1960 1452 Coupes were made in total, and of those just 52 were CKD kits in right-hand-drive. This is one of those 52 cars.
In Durban, South Africa several versions of the MGA were built from CKD kits, including 54 Coupes built between 1959 and 1961 – this car among them.

The Heritage Certificate for this car shows more details.

The car was sold new to Mr Jimmy Moggridge, who later became Chairman of the MG Car Club in Johannesburg. In 1981 he had the car restored to a multi award-winning standard. Moggridge retained the car until 2019 – just shy of 60 years of ownership. Pretty remarkable.

The present owner, an MG enthusiast who’d owned several others, had more work done to the car after purchase, including engine and gearbox rebuilds. The seats were re-trimmed in red leather, the original colour for the car’s interior.

In 2021 the owner migrated to Australia and brought the MGA with him. It has been put on C4C registration through the MG Car Club and has been on the occasional club run. The owner advises that the car is particularly reliable - and that it always starts with ease.
It presents beautifully, on optional wire wheels, the lovely colour offset by the additional chromework a Coupe has. In the cabin, the engine bay, the boot, underneath - everywhere, this car presents extremely well.

Rarity, history, condition and beauty are combined so well in this MGA. It will make an excellent addition to any garage.
