As we move into winter and brace for its frosty mornings and rainy days, it’s a good time to explore how you could be more energy efficient as the cold begins to bite. Heat your home with some of the below tips this winter:

❄️ Set your heater to 18°C and warm your home with a comfortable temperature
❄️ Let the sunshine in – if the air is cold, but the sun is out, open your blinds and warm your home naturally

Sometimes it’s the smallest changes that can make a difference to the cost to operate our appliances and oftentimes it’s the things we don’t think about. Your coils are out of sight out of mind—but they should only take 10-15 minutes to clean and only need doing every 6 months. Dust and dirt build up can impact how efficiently your refrigerator runs, which can cause a higher running cost.

There’s nothing quite like a hot shower – especially as we move into the cooler months of the year, but if you have a storage hot water system you might not have considered how heating the water could be adding to your energy bills. Here are some quick tips that could help reduce your energy and water use:

💧 The recommended setting for a thermostat is 60°C for storage hot water systems and no more than 50°C on instantaneous systems
💧Try for shorter showers (every minute your shower runs is another minute of water use and water heating costs.)
💧If you’re away from home for more than a week, turn off your storage hot water system
