Del studied Fine Art initially and went on to complete post graduate studies in Fine Art Conservation in England, resulting in an extensive professional association with museums and art galleries. The original of this icon, known as The Black Madonna, was too badly fire-damaged to be restored. To recreate it, I worked from a number of online images, drafting the initial design and gradually working up the colour in oil paints. Satisfying outcome.
