I stopped calling myself “just a…” and everything shifted. But that wasn’t the whole story.

Even after I dropped the “just,” I was still bouncing between titles that didn’t quite fit. We offered VA services. We offered OBM services. Two very different things, but both part of what we did. Neither one on its own captured the full picture, though.

We were embedded in businesses, shaping how they operated from the inside out. Building systems, implementing processes, managing teams, executing strategy, and handling the day-to-day. All at once. All tailored to what each client actually needed.

But I couldn’t find the words for it. And when you can’t name what you do, you can’t fully own it either.

It took feedback from incredible clients who described what we did better than I ever could.

That’s when it clicked. We weren’t offering VA or OBM services anymore. We were delivering operational support and management. Bespoke, high-touch, and deeply integrated into each business we work with.

The moment I named it properly, everything aligned. The right clients found us faster. And for the first time, what we said on the outside finally matched what we’d been doing on the inside all along.

Your business is allowed to evolve. Your title is allowed to change. You’re allowed to outgrow the box you started in.

That’s kind of the whole point IMO.

So if you’re feeling stuck and things just aren’t adding up, try this: seek out honest feedback (yes, like a 360-style review, for those of you ex-corporates who didn’t just break out in a cold sweat at the thought 😉), take a proper moment to reflect, and ask yourself if the box you’re operating in is even the right one anymore.

Chances are, you’ve already outgrown it!

I keep seeing the same thing on repeat right now.

Business owners working long hours, feeling exhausted, and wondering why there’s never enough money left over to pay themselves properly.

Today marks 6 years since I went all in on Becollab 🥹

What started as a quiet side hustle for the 7 years prior, while I was a corporate girlie, eventually became the business I run full-time today.

Many wins. Some mistakes. A lot of learning and evolving along the way.

Here are 6 lessons from the past 6 years that have shaped how I run my business today.

If you’re building something of your own right now, I hope one of them lands for you.

Building a business will stretch you in ways you didn’t know were possible, but not a day goes by that I’m not grateful for the freedom it has brought.

And to my number 1 cheerleader (my Mum), my right-hand lady , my inner circle, and the incredible clients and collaborators who have been part of the journey, thank you. Truly 🤍

There is something about flying that unlocks a different part of my brain 🔓

No notifications.
No “quick questions.”
No context switching.

Just altitude, a notebook, and space to think.

A holiday.
A forced extra-slow down, thanks for the holiday injury, universe 🙄
A nervous system reset.
And now, pages full of new ideas & thoughts.

There’s something about being suspended between where I’ve been and where I’m going that makes everything clearer. Reflecting mid-air, suspended between versions of yourself, feels powerful.

Flying gives me uninterrupted thinking time, the kind that feels rare in everyday life. By the time the wheels touch down, I’m not just home.
I’m clearer.

And clarity is everything in business.

The power of small beginnings 🥹

I still remember sitting at my first client’s kitchen table, laptop open, figuring it all out as I went. Then it became two clients, then a few more - all while studying and working full-time.

Here’s the truth: you don’t need a big launch, a perfect website, or to quit your 9–5 to start your business.

In fact, I recommend not.

That steady wage? It’s your safety net - it takes the pressure off, gives you breathing room to learn the ropes, invest in yourself, and build something that can actually scale when (or if) you decide to leave the corporate world.

But… be prepared for the sacrifices. Late nights. Weekend work. Saying no to some things so you can say yes to your future. I’m not going to sugar-coat it - it’s not always easy.

You’ll be tired. You’ll doubt yourself. But if you’re committed, those small steps compound into something bigger than you can imagine.

And while I won’t sugar-coat it, I will be the gal who helps you collapse your business timeline and passes you a margi when you need it 🍸🖤

Your dream business doesn’t need a grand opening. It just needs your first yes.

Last year, social media wasn’t even on my radar.

It was one of the plastic balls I dropped so I could keep the glass ones in the air.

And honestly? I don’t regret it. (Spoiler alert, my business didn’t stop growing 😉)

Since coming back, I’ve asked myself: how can I make this feel lighter, more authentic, less like another task on the list?

Here’s what I’ve learned: creativity flows in the spaces I least expect it.
Walking. Journaling. Talking to a friend.

Like the other weekend - after a 10km walk and a phone catch-up with a friend (shout out to the long-distance bestie 🫶🏼), I had 10 new post ideas land straight into my Notes app. Not from time-blocking “content creation” but from simply living and reflecting.

So right now, instead of rigid scheduling, I’m letting my content come from habit stacking. Pairing it with things I already do. Writing when the inspiration hits. Sharing when it feels in flow.

Because I don’t want this space to be another chore.

I want it to be real. A place to share truths, lessons, and golden nuggets - not just highlights.

Feeling that Sunday-night dread creeping in?

Here’s a reminder: there’s never a perfect time to start your business. Being ready isn’t a feeling - it’s a decision

The right moment doesn’t just happen. You create it by choosing to leap, even when life feels messy or uncertain.

My journey started in 2013 with one client at their kitchen table, then another referral, quietly building while studying and working full time. Later came a few re-locations, a pivot, a website refresh, and clients finding me through word of mouth.

Then 2020 hit - a redundancy and a global pandemic. On paper, it was the worst possible time to take a risk, did I mention the ink was still wet on my new home loan also 😮‍💨 But I made the decision to back myself, and it changed everything.
