You don't need a bigger story. You need to notice the one already sitting in front of you. That's the heart of business storytelling.

Most leaders think their work is too ordinary to be a story. The story isn't the big launch, it's the client who almost walked away and didn't. Look back at last month, there's a moment in there worth telling.

Think back over the last month and find one small moment worth sharing.

If your grandmother wouldn't get it, there's a good chance your audience won't either. Cut the jargon. davidprice.com/storytelling

If your grandmother wouldn't understand it, your audience probably doesn't either. Business storytelling only works in plain language.

"Synergise cross-functional deliverables" says nothing. "Get the teams talking to each other" says everything. Jargon feels safe because it sounds professional. It's actually just distance.

Find one piece of jargon in your next pitch and translate it into plain English.

Before and after. That's the whole story, right there. davidprice.com/storytelling

Before and after is the oldest trick in business storytelling, and it still works every time.

"Meetings used to run 90 minutes. Now they run 25." That's a whole story in one line. Contrast does the heavy lifting your explanation doesn't need to do. Find the before, find the after, let the gap between them tell the story.

Find the before and after in your own work this week. That's your next post.

Don't end your story with a summary. End it with a question. davidprice.com/storytelling

06/08/2026

Good business storytelling doesn't end with a summary. It ends with a question that stays with people.

A neat wrap-up closes the conversation. A good final question keeps it open in their head on the drive home. "And that's why preparation matters" closes the loop. "What would change if you prepared like that every time?" keeps it alive.

Try finishing your next talk with a question instead of a conclusion.
