I’m a Mechanical Fitter, Team Leader, and Supervisor at Mader Group, specialising in fixed plant maintenance across gold and iron ore operations in WA.
I didn’t get here by accident. My dad was a Chief Mechanic in oil & gas, so growing up around machines, pressure, and responsibility made this path personal. My goal was simple. Build a career strong enough to carry his legacy forward.
Like many fresh engineering graduates, I faced rejection in oil & gas until Mader offered me a Trade Assistant role. I told Matt, “I’ll give 100% if Mader keeps me busy.” Safe to say… both sides held up their end. My first site showed me the respect and culture that sets Mader apart.
After multiple maintenance swings and shutdowns across WA, a call changed everything. Step up, complete your RPL, and move forward as a Fitter. “Matt and Shannon didn’t just see where I was, they saw where I could go.”
Then came my first “3 Gear” event at Karijini, where I met the legend Nashy (aka Big Red). I’m not exactly a “water person,” yet somehow I ended up stuck in the water for two days 😂. That trip showed me Mader is about more than work. It’s about people, culture, and experiences you won’t get anywhere else.
Things started to click. I became a Mechanical Fitter, gained confidence, and even got married 💍. Before long, I stepped into a Team Leader role and was later named Outstanding Employee of the Year at the Mader Christmas Party.
From there came bigger responsibilities. KPIs, supervising major shutdowns, covering multiple sites, and epic trips away with the crew, including Mount Hart with Nashy, Justin, and Luke Mader.
2026 kicked off with a four-week swing on Christmas Island, Level 2 Team Leader training, and now I’m heading back to site as a Processing Supervisor.
What started as a random opportunity turned into a career I’m proud of. And the best part? I’m just getting started.
Most days, everything runs according to plan. On the other days....my phone rings.
