"𝘐'𝘭𝘭 𝘥𝘰 𝘪𝘵 𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳."

That's probably the most expensive sentence you'll say this year.

Not because of the jobs you didn't quote...

Because of the kilometres you didn't record.

Every day you jump in the ute to head to a job, supplier or client, you're creating a potential tax deduction.

But if you don't keep a proper logbook...

Those trips can become impossible to substantiate.

Here's the good news.

You don't need to track every trip forever.

Just 12 weeks.

That's it.

Future you (and your accountant) will be very happy you started today instead of waiting until June.

"𝘔𝘺 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯... 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯?"

If you're a business owner, you've probably heard the term more than once.

In simple terms, 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱, rather than all at once.

So why does that matter?

Because depreciation affects more than just your accounts.

It influences:
📊 Your business's reported profit
💰 The tax deductions you may be entitled to
📈 How you measure the true cost of running your business
🔄 When it's financially sensible to replace or upgrade business assets

Many business owners focus on revenue, but understanding your expenses is just as important.

Depreciation helps paint a more realistic picture of your business's financial health by matching costs to the period in which they help generate income.

The takeaway?

You don't need to memorise accounting rules; but understanding concepts like depreciation helps you ask better questions, make more informed decisions, and have more productive conversations with your accountant.

Because the more you understand your numbers, the more confidently you can run your business.

💡 Tax myths can be expensive.

Every year, business owners make decisions based on advice they've heard from friends, social media, or outdated information. The problem? Tax rules don't work on assumptions.

In this carousel, we're busting 5 common tax myths that could be costing your business money, including:
✅ "If I didn't make a profit, I don't need to lodge a tax return."
✅ "Buying equipment means the government pays for it."
✅ "Cash jobs don't need to be declared."
✅ "My accountant is responsible for my tax return."
✅ "I can claim 100% of my car, phone, and home office."

Understanding what's fact and what's fiction can help you stay compliant, avoid unnecessary penalties, and maximise legitimate deductions.

👉 Swipe through to separate tax myths from reality.

Have you heard any other tax myths? Share them in the comments—we'd love to bust them.

Many people pay more tax than they need to without realising it.

Concessional super contributions can help reduce your taxable income because they're generally taxed at 15% inside your super fund instead of your personal marginal tax rate.

Depending on your circumstances, that difference could mean significant while helping you build your retirement.

For the 2025/26 financial year, the concessional contributions cap is $30,000.

You may also be able to use unused cap amounts from previous years if you meet the ATO's eligibility requirements.

Want to use your super to reduce your taxable income? Comment Super and we'll send you a detailed guide on the same.

Many dream of running their own practice.

But the reality often looks very different.

You leave employment with strong technical skills…

Then suddenly you're responsible for:

• Finding clients
• Building a website
• Creating marketing campaigns
• Choosing software
• Setting up systems
• Generating referrals
• Managing operations
• Growing revenue

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀.

The challenge isn't accounting.

The challenge is building a business.

That's why many accountants never take the leap.

At KSH Tax, we've built a model designed to remove much of the uncertainty that comes with starting from scratch.

Our franchise partners gain access to:

✅ Proven business systems
✅ Done-for-you marketing support
✅ Lead generation strategies
✅ Ongoing training and mentoring
✅ Operational guidance
✅ A recognised brand and established framework

You still own your business.

You still build your client relationships.

But you don't have to figure everything out alone.

If you've ever thought about owning your own accounting practice, the question isn't whether you're technically capable.

Thinking about going into business with a friend?

Quick question...

Have you discussed what happens if one of you wants out?

Or if one person is doing 80% of the work?

Or if one partner takes on debt without the other knowing?

Most people don't.

They focus on getting started and assume they'll work out the details later.

The problem is that "later" is usually when disagreements happen.

What many people don't realise is that in a partnership:

👉 Each partner can be personally liable for business debts
👉 One partner's actions can affect the other partners
👉 Profits are distributed and taxed through each partner's personal tax return
👉 Without a written agreement, default legal rules may apply

That's why the best partnerships aren't built on trust alone.

They're built on clear expectations, proper agreements and the right structure from day one.

Before you start, make sure you've discussed:

✓ Roles and responsibilities
✓ Profit-sharing
✓ Decision-making
✓ Exit strategies
✓ Long-term goals

If you're considering a partnership, send us a DM.

We'll provide a FREE structure review and help you understand whether a Partnership, Company or Trust structure is the best fit for your situation.

Most business owners don't choose the wrong structure.

They simply outgrow the one they started with.

What made sense when you were earning $30,000 may not be the best option when you're making $100,000+.

We regularly speak with business owners who set up as a sole trader years ago and never stopped to ask:

👉 Is this still the best structure for me?
👉 Am I paying more tax than I need to?
👉 Are my personal assets adequately protected?
👉 Will this structure support the growth I have planned?

Sometimes a sole trader structure is exactly right.

Sometimes a Company or Trust can provide better tax outcomes, stronger asset protection, and greater flexibility as your business grows.

The challenge is knowing which option makes sense for your specific situation.

If you're not sure, send us a DM.

We'll provide a FREE structure review and help you understand the best structure for where your business is today — and where you want it to be tomorrow.

Need help registering a Company, Trust, ABN or GST? We can help with that too.
