Wanting to prompt a pack refill for clients when they are close to finishing their pack?

This auto email (now called notifications) is a great one for this job.

You can connect it to the pricing options you want the notification to be paired with - and design the email in HTML to ensure the brand experience is cohesive.

I thought it was probably time you got to know the person behind Smooth Sailing a little better 👋

Hello! I’m Sarah!

My career path has taken a few turns, but looking back, it actually makes a lot of sense.

When I ran my studio, my systems were VERY manual!

Contact logs. Spreadsheets. And a whole day every week spent on retention. Lots of last visit reports, working out who hasn’t been in.

This was long before automations and proper lead management!

6.5 years ago I sent a DM to Sheree.

That DM led me to start my consulting course remotely through the US, become a certified Mindbody consultant and start working for Smooth Sailing.

In 2023, I bought Smooth Sailing.

And now I get to work with studio owners all over the world, across a few different software platforms, helping them untangle the complicated stuff and make their businesses a little easier to run.

It’s funny how a career can feel completely random while you’re living it, and then make so much more sense when you look back.

I think I’ve always just loved the same thing:

Taking lots of moving parts, making sense of them, and making things work better.

And I’m pretty lucky that I get to do that every day. ⛵️

If you’re a studio owner in Australia, 1 October is worth putting on your radar. 👀

The rules around card surcharging are changing, which means if you’ve been passing card processing fees onto your clients, you’ll need to rethink how you handle that cost.

And the numbers can add up quickly.

For example, if you have 100 members paying $50/week, that’s $260,000 in annual membership revenue.

At the current rates we’ve used in this example, you could be looking at around $8,000+ a year in payment processing fees.

If you’re using Mindbody Payments, you’re already absorbing those fees.

If you’re using Momence and have been passing some or all of the processing fee onto your clients, you will soon need to absorb that cost instead.

My advice? Don’t just quietly wear it.

If you’re due for a pricing review, this is a good opportunity to build your payment processing costs into your overall pricing.

Your clients don’t necessarily need to see a separate card fee.

They just need to see a price that makes sense for the service you provide — and you need to make sure that price actually works for your business.

Go check what you’re currently paying in payment processing fees. You might be surprised by the annual number!

Rates and rules can vary depending on your payment setup. Do your own research and check with your payment provider about how the October changes apply to your business.

2 new Momence features worth knowing about 👀

Momence has quietly rolled out a few updates that are actually pretty useful for studio owners.

📅 Month-view calendar for your website booking plugin
Clients can now jump straight to the date they want rather than scrolling through your schedule - day by day!!

🎁 Better gift card controls
You can now get notified when a gift card is purchased, restrict what it can be used for, and view its transaction history.
Neither is a massive headline feature — but these are the kinds of small updates that can make admin a whole lot easier. 💡 Being able to bring up gift card purchase history to see what clients have bought (when they swear they had $100 left!)

If you use Momence, it’s worth keeping an eye on the New Releases section because there’s always something new hiding in there.

I love reading F**t Insider because it often explains why we’re seeing changes in our own studios.

One insight that stood out this week:

Younger generations are redefining what success looks like. Instead of chasing traditional milestones, many are investing in their health, routines and community.
That’s a huge opportunity for boutique fitness.

People don’t just join us to exercise.
They join because they want to belong.
