Before the weather heats up, it’s worth asking a simple question:

If there’s a fire, will your fire water system deliver what it’s supposed to?

Fire hydrants, booster assemblies, tanks, pumps and associated equipment can sit quietly for months — but when they’re needed, there’s no room for surprises.

A pre-summer check is a good opportunity to look at the basics:

• Hydrant and booster condition
• Water storage levels and tank condition
• Fire pump operation and performance
• Valves, gauges and connections
• Access to hydrants and fire equipment
• Any faults or issues identified during previous testing

Getting these things checked before the hotter months means there’s time to address problems before they become urgent.

Good fire protection starts with knowing your system is ready before you need it.

Fire extinguishers can look perfectly fine on the outside, but that doesn’t always tell the full story.

As part of a recent service, our team completed the 5-yearly pressure testing of the site’s extinguishers. Units that were no longer suitable for continued service were identified and replaced.

It’s one of those maintenance requirements that can easily be overlooked — but making sure extinguishers are tested, serviceable and ready to use is an important part of keeping a fire protection system reliable.

Another site checked, tested and maintained as it should be.

A hydrant system can look fine on the surface, but do you know what happens when part of the ring main needs to be isolated?

Isolation valves need to be clearly identified, accessible and shown correctly on the block plan.

During maintenance or a boosted flow test, knowing exactly which section can be isolated saves time and avoids unnecessary disruption to the rest of the system.

Pressure and flow results can also tell you a lot about how the system is performing. A change from previous test results may point to an issue that needs further investigation.

It’s often the small details—valves, plans and test results—that make a big difference when a hydrant system is needed.

Completed Callout | Restoring a Booster to Service ✅

Our team recently responded to a service call for a leaking fire booster tank. After investigating the issue, we found the pressure gauge was missing, allowing water to escape from the system.

The pressure gauge was replaced, the leak was repaired, and the booster assembly was tested to confirm everything was operating as it should.

It doesn't always take a major fault to affect a fire protection system. Missing or damaged components can lead to unnecessary water loss and reduce system reliability if left unattended. Regular inspections help identify these issues early and keep systems in service.

Did you know? 🤔

A fire door only works when it's closed.

Many people think a fire door is there simply to separate rooms, but its real purpose is to slow the spread of fire and smoke. Even the highest-rated fire door can lose its effectiveness if it's wedged open or doesn't close properly.

That's why fire doors are fitted with self-closing devices and should never be propped open unless they're connected to an approved fire door release system.

As temperatures drop, heaters, electrical equipment and appliances tend to work a little harder. While they're helping keep workplaces comfortable, they can also increase the risk of electrical faults if they're not used or maintained properly.

It's also worth remembering that winter weather can take its toll on outdoor fire protection equipment. Moisture, debris and reduced visibility can all affect access to hydrants, hose reels and fire equipment if they're left unchecked.

A few simple checks can make a big difference:
✅ Make sure fire exits and hydrants remain clear and accessible.
✅ Test smoke alarms where required.
✅ Avoid overloading power boards and extension leads.
✅ Keep up with scheduled servicing of your fire protection systems.

Small maintenance tasks today can help prevent bigger issues when they're needed most.

Stay safe this winter! ❄️

Site Update | 𝗗𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗛𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 🔥

Fire protection starts long before an emergency.

This recently completed dual fire hydrant installation has been designed to provide dependable water access for firefighting operations while supporting the site's overall fire protection strategy.

From excavation and pipework through to commissioning and testing, every stage of the installation is carried out to ensure the system operates as intended and meets the site's requirements.

It's the kind of work that often goes unnoticed, but it's an essential part of creating safer buildings and helping critical systems perform when they're needed most 🚨

Another job wrapped up by our team in Forrestdale! 💪

This visit involved replacing a faulty sounder control unit and tamper switch to get the fire system back to full working order.

While these components may not always be visible, they play an important role in the overall reliability of a fire protection system. Finding and fixing faults early helps keep equipment operating as intended and reduces the risk of bigger issues down the track.

A great result by the team, and another site ready to go 💯🫡

🚨 Emergency Call-Out: Leaking Hydrant Landing Valve

When a fire protection system isn't performing as it should, a rapid response is essential.

Our team recently attended an emergency call-out to investigate a leaking hydrant landing valve. After identifying a worn rubber gasket as the cause, we promptly replaced the faulty component and restored the valve to full operational condition.

It's a reminder that even the smallest components play a critical role in the reliability of your fire protection system. Timely repairs and proactive maintenance help ensure your equipment remains compliant, operational, and ready when it's needed most.

As we celebrate NAIDOC Week 2026, Safetytech recognises the rich histories, cultures, and enduring contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across Australia 🌱

This year's theme, "50 Years of Deadly," marks an important milestone, celebrating five decades of recognising the strength, resilience, leadership, and achievements of First Nations communities.

We believe that creating safer workplaces goes beyond compliance—it begins with respect, inclusion, and a commitment to ensuring every individual feels valued and supported. These principles are fundamental to building stronger organisations and more connected communities.

During NAIDOC Week, we acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we live and work. We pay our respects to Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We encourage everyone to take this opportunity to learn, listen, and engage with the stories and cultures that continue to shape our nation.
