VALE GORDON MAHER
A Global Legacy of Leadership, Connection & Character
Today I farewell my Dad.
Now I’ll admit, I’m a bit of a Dad’s son, so when people say to me, you are just like your father, Wow - I wear that as a badge of honour.
Just like him, I don’t venture onto facebook or use social media too much, I generally prefer the human connection, talking to people face to face, maybe getting on the phone to communicate. Having said that, given what has transpired over the last few weeks, I’ve ventured into the digital world to read messages from around the world, and what's clear is his influence and positive effect has had a true global reach.
Throughout my life, whenever I did something good, achieved a milestone, or was planning a new path, I would talk to him - in person or on the phone, and tell him what I’m up to, or discuss whatever business I’m doing at the time. Plenty of times I’ve been in a different country, getting on a video call to run him through some lessons of the day or how I’ve managed to make a difference.
For me, my life’s journey is one that is shared with him.
That is what I will find the hardest. It will be a bit like the tree falling in the forest.
Having said all that, I take comfort in knowing that thousands, if not tens of thousands of people around the world are living better lives today because of the lessons Dad provided and the collective actions of both my Parents.
My Dad spent his life making this world better.
So after today, we will continue down the path we’ve been on for a while now, trying to help a few people and provide opportunities for those less fortunate than us, and continue on Dad’s legacy.
For now, life has lost some of its brightness.
