The moon today is Ohoata , that means to wake early. I woke so early it was almost Tirea the moon before! šFeeling all the marama influences intensely this week. Thereās wood to chop and gather.
Who pushes a heat pump or simply turns on a heater? Who pays for your electricity or fills up the gas bottle?
Itās winter, itās cold. Whoās tamariki know where to gather pine cones or how to chop wood (waahie)?
Waahie means chopped wood which is a different MÄori word to a tree which is a rakau.
A strong stick can be called a rakau but not a twig or a branch thatās a peka.
Rakaunui is what some call the full moon, for us itās the moon after the full. The big strong stick Rakaunui.
Think abit more wider and creatively as thatās the MÄori world view, the moon phase is just not a big stick or a get up early one, itās so much more.
The moon today of Ohoata is alot different then on Ohoata in a summer month of course!
Whoās checking on you? Check on the old people, are they warm? Your neighbours do they have enough kindling?
Check on the solo mamas, our turoro, our people struggling in winter, a warm fire makes the day and night lighter.
Sit around talking and laughing, story telling, we donāt get the same results sitting around the microwave! Whakapapa, genealogy, how we came to be, tell the Mokopuna about their ancestors, their grandparents.
Today is Ohoata, rise early. Take the time. Nou te wa.
The home fires are burning.
