2025 is nearly over, just the final push to get through Christmas and we’ll all begin again on January 01st.
It has been quite a year looking back, we’ve lost some people along the way and we owe it to them to keep their memory alive by taking the time to reminisce, share stories and keeping in touch with their families.
Red Fox has continued to keep busy and is i believe starting its third decade of trading in 2026, i had no idea it would last this long but i guess if you do your job right and charge fairly then customers will never be too far away.
The Red Fox family all met in Chicago this year as we completed a full trip around the globe, all four members in a room and in the Blackhawks home Stadium for the first time in a long time and being able to celebrate an Ice Hockey win.
With us living in Brisbane, TM living in Vancouver and our lad forever on the road touring in the US we are a bit fragmented but the chances are we’ll find a way to make sure there is an annual meet up somewhere.
So i quite liked 2025…..well so far anyway and i hope 2026 can be more of the same please. Merry Christmas 2025 to all of you who bother to read this, we wish you all the very best for the remainder of this year and for the forthcoming one, be safe, be happy and take care.

Hmmm 2024 is coming to an end and what an interesting year it has been.
I ran a Marathon in Disney Florida with my family and then ran another in Disney California with my wife and our lad whilst our lass ran Marathons in Chicago and New York and for now calls Vancouver Canada home.
Our lad has travelled the World on tour with numerous bands whilst taking their photographs for his Something Coloured Black Company.
Bridgette has finished another year at the local School and the Recycling Initiative she introduced won the team she created an award for all their efforts, she is an astonishing woman.
My Company continues to trade although maybe not as busy in the last six months as before, but i am still in Business and still trading which for a Sole Trader in an ever increasing competitive market is something to be proud of i reckon.
So diversity i have found is the way forward, Installing CCTV with a pal, working as the Building Engineer for the BEC for the majority of their Events and taking the odd shift at Bunnings if needs be. Yes i’d rather do my own Red Fox work all of the time, 41 years and counting and i still enjoy it but waiting for the phone to ring is nonsensical when bills have to be paid and i feel i have some worth if i find alternate means of adding to the bank balance.
By definition i am a miserable old git but my wife and our two bairns shine a light into my life that can’t be extinguished and because of them i feel i have a purpose. So my christmas message to everyone this year is to seek out your own light and find that purpose, life isn’t always great but the moments when it is should be seized and held onto, you’ll find comfort in them when you hit a bump in the road.
Merry Christmas 2024 one and all.

There are plenty of venues in Brisbane to watch live music but i only work at one. For the past couple of nights the Brisbane Entertainment Centre has hosted Country & Western star Luke Combs who has sold every seat in the house. I’ve worked here for 21 years and seen every corner of the place and being involved with event nights is something extra which i really quite like. The preparation leading up to the event, the event itself and the follow up afterwards, all very rewarding.

So the end of the financial year is rapidly approaching and it’ll be a busy few days and then i dare say the beginning of July will start off slowly as we all reset and start anew.
Red Fox Communications continues to prosper and since my previous post i have taken on the role of Building Engineer at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre for all the events. We have just had a visit from Michael Buble who played two near sold out shows which had great feedback, Disney and Cirque du Soleil are there in July, followed by one of the hottest tickets of the year Luke Combs. After surviving the lean times during covid, the Centre is buzzing again and the atmosphere is upbeat and alive.
I’ve been busy also at the Brisbane Racing Club also as the Winter Carnival has just finished with Stradbroke Day closing the event, which saw large crowds enjoying a full day of Horse Racing.
Fibre running, Data Cabinet Installations, NBN relocations, CCTV installations, Server Upgrades, new Network Cabling and Access Points installs plus MATV, tennis court lights and stupid hours, it is still a job i love to do working with some mighty fine people…….i can only continue to do what i do and hope that the relationships i have built remain in place, i’m always prepared to do whatever is needed to ensure a project is finished to a customers satisfaction, it is what British Telecom drummed into us as youngsters.
Do it right first time, every time and take pride in what you do.

2023 has been a blur so far for Red Fox Communications, so many projects completed, many more in progress and others waiting to be done. I have also taken on the role of Building Engineer at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre so if there is an event on, i’ll be there on site to attend to any emergency. Thankfully the BEC is well maintained throughout the week so there are plenty of opportunities to watch what is happening in the arena during the night.
This is my fortieth year in the Communications Business, i am forever grateful to British Telecom for the many years i had working with them. I had a lot of pals there and i left with enough memories to fill many books, i had no idea where my career would go in Brisbane but i work with some really good people here that trust my instincts and are happy with the work that i do with them.
I still like what i do and i can only hope that everything just continues on the course it is currently going, i have no complaints with anything just now.

Out of respect of the fallen Police Officers i did not record the footage of the two hearses as they passed me by at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre today, instead i stood head bowed and thanked them both for their dedication and bravery. I did though want to record a segment to mark a moment in history when the Centre ring road was lined with fellow Officers and members of the public as they formed a guard of honour, something never seen before and hopefully will never be seen again.
My Company was there in a support role, working with IT to ensure that the Media were able to livestream and that the actual event ran smoothly, which it did. A tremendous amount of planning was done in such a short time to allow the memorial to happen, the Brisbane Entertainment Management once again showing how good they are with turning ideas into fruition.

As the year 2022 draws to a close, we should all pause and raise a glass to those we have lost in the last 12 months and continue to celebrate the lives of those who have been gone for longer. As long as we remember they will never be forgotten…..
Have a safe and happy christmas, take the time to hug those close to you just that little bit harder this year and if you love them, then tell them, as recent events underline just how precious and short our lives can be.
Red Fox Communications wishes each and every one of you good fortune for 2023.

My Company continues to keep itself busy with a varied schedule of work. Fibre, Coax, Cat6 and Figure 8 have all been run over the past wee while, Data Cabinets, Fobots and Cameras have all been installed. Todays project were the Comms set up for the Netball International between England & Australia that is due to be played in Brisbane tonight. Working hand in hand with Troy the IT Specialist we worked our way through the requirements of the Hirer to ensure they had what they needed from us to make tonights game run smoothly.

It has been an eventful past couple of months for Red Fox. I have been running network cabling for new Security Cameras at the BRC and their Gallopers Club including their Big Screen at Eagle Farm. I have been involved with SD-WAN site upgrades for the Endeavour Foundation and running Optical Fibre for the BEC plus new BMS cabling on their High Steel. Since working with British Telecom as a lad i have always had access to some of the most interesting of places, working behind the scenes and seeing the real heart and soul of a Business. It may not appeal to a lot of people but i still enjoy it, different faces day to day and always a new challenge. By my reckoning Australia will have me working until some-one turns up to shovel me into a bin after i die of old age so it’s fortuitous that i do enjoy what i do, it’s not a bad life.

I’ve seen the Whales in Hervey Bay this week, million dollar Horses at the Doomben Race Track and tonight it’s the PBR Bull riding at the Entertainment Centre. I have been in the Communications Business nearly 40 years and i still really enjoy myself, every job may have a similarity but the venues are different, the people are different and as i continue to work towards retirement at 80, i feel that i must be doing something right as my work diary remains busy. Always grateful to the Companies that trust my judgement and allow me free reign to take an idea and bring it to fruition, i work with some good people that collectively make my working day so much easier.

I spent around 15 years looking after this place before a change of Management changed everything. So i were quite surprised to find myself back there this week to sort out a problem with the turnstiles for ticketek. I ran into a lot of familiar faces and for a while i felt i’d never been away, so many memories and stories from my involvement. I wasn’t too happy about being made to move on but that were sq and not the stadium that made that decision. I always enjoyed what i did and always made sure that the work were up to standard and on event days i went out of my way to ensure the media were always looked after.
In all my time there, not one complaint but plenty of handshakes and thank you’s from people who appreciated that i took whatever problem they had and dealt with it, no fuss, no bother just dealt with it.

Well South East Queensland has taken a bit of a battering during the last few days. Awful flooding and sadly loss of life combined with so much damage to property and wildlife, thankfully as we’ve been through this as recently as 2011 we all know that we can effectively bounce back. We finally managed to maybe get ahead of the covid situation only to find the extreme weather has once again intervened and Business owners have another hurdle to climb over as they attempt to keep going.
Whatever my Company can do to assist will be done, i am only a call or a text away and if we can get your Network back online so you can function then we’ll do it. The true extent of the damage may not be known for a few days when roads and bridges are re-opened and everyone can assess, they say the worst is over and it is all about moving forward.
Stay safe and remember to check in with your neighbours to ensure that they are all okay as well.

Well that were a shock to find that i’d written nothing on my Business page for over a year.
Let’s be honest though the last 12 months have been pretty weird and all well documented, so much so that there’s no need for me to repeat it.
Fortunately i’ve been able to continue working but there are a fair number of other Businesses that have succumbed to the financial problems created by covid and have ceased to be, so many great ideas and plans simply ruined because of circumstances that they had no control over.
As i see it, there will always be people and Businesses that will need the work that i do to be done, if not by me then by some-one else so i may well have quiet weeks but something will always turn up and for that i am forever grateful, but i take nothing for granted.
Christmas is now just around the corner and i’ve noticed that it’s getting very expensive to live here in australia, food, fuel, utilities all of the prices are going up. My wife has been doing the grocery shopping and since August has been buying something extra each week and adding it to a box in the kitchen cupboard, the intention being that in the week before Christmas all of the items can be donated so that families that are struggling with the basics can worry a little less. It’s a great idea and i would suggest that for those of us that can afford to add a single different item each week, do so. The fact is that in todays world, we could be one of those families next year, none of us know what life has planned for us.
Red Fox would like to wish all their customers and those who have liked the page all the very best for the remainder of the year and that you have a Merry Christmas. I would also like to see travel restrictions lifted in 2022 so that for those of us with families in other countries can be reunited, the world is waiting and i need a break from Prison Island…..!
