Tapanappa is the ongoing mission of celebrated winemaker Brian Croser and his family to make world-class wines from the most distinguished sites in South Australia. The winery and cellar door sit at the foot of the oldest vineyard in the Adelaide Hills - The Tiers Vineyard - which is globally recognised for its outstanding Chardonnay. Tapanappa Cellar Door also proudly hosts the wines of DAOSA and Terre a Terre, produced by Brian’s son-in-law and daughter Xavier and Lucy Bizot.

The first signs of Vintage 2027 are here.

After a long, rainy winter, the Tiers vines have been awakened by a week of gentle spring sunshine, their first tender leaves unfurling as we embark on another growing season.

August is always a special time in South Australia as SALA Festival transforms the state into a celebration of local creativity. This year, we’re delighted to host local artist Eliza Piro at our shared Piccadilly Valley Cellar Door.

We believe that great w**e and great art both tell stories of place. Eliza’s From Hills to Sea exhibition brings together a vibrant collection of landscapes, mandalas and richly patterned works inspired by the natural world that surrounds us. Alongside her original paintings and prints, you’ll also discover a range of beautifully designed fashion pieces and table linens.

What better way to spend a winter afternoon than immersing yourself in inspiring local art before settling in for a glass or a tasting of our equally inspiring w**es?

The exhibition is open daily during Cellar Door hours (11am–4pm), from 8–30 August.

If you’re planning to stay for a tasting, we recommend booking ahead, particularly on weekends.

We are excited to unveil the latest vintages of Tapanappa Pinot Noir: the 2025 Foggy Hill and the 2023 ‘DEFINITUS’, both from our Foggy Hill Vineyard in Parawa, the highest point of the Fleurieu Peninsula.

These w**es make a fascinating pair, coming from two vintages that could not have been more different. The 2023 season was very cool and late, while 2025 was the warmest and earliest harvest ever at Foggy Hill—35% warmer than 2023.

Despite these contrasting growing seasons, both w**es display the powerful fruit, gentle tannins, and fine mouthfeel that are hallmarks of this distinguished site. As Ray Jordan W**e of W**epilot reviewed, the 2023 ‘DEFINITUS’ is “a w**e of structure, poise and considerable cellaring potential,” while the 2025 Foggy Hill “displays remarkable elegance and restraint.”

It feels as though nature has been determined to explore every possible seasonal variation over recent years. In w**e, not everything is explicable. Thank goodness for that.

Both w**es are now available to taste at our Cellar Door or to purchase from our website.

Some of our oldest vines have just completed a five-year “surgery”!

As the vines aged, their trunks became scarred after decades of pruning, restricting the flow of water and nutrients. Yet, while their capacity and productivity have diminished with age, the quality of the grapes—and the w**es they produce—has continued to improve year after year. As Brian says, ”They were simply too valuable to lose to the deprivations of time.“ So, in 2021, we began the ”hip replacement for Tiers“—training a healthy new shoot from the base into a new trunk while preserving the vine’s established root system.

Today, some of these vines have completed their rejuvenation: old roots, new trunks, renewed productivity, and the same exceptional fruit that only these remarkable old vines can produce.

O‘ that we humans had adventitious buds!

We’re almost sold out of our 2024 Foggy Hill Vineyard and 2022 ‘DEFINITUS’ Pinot Noir!

Both w**es come from low-yielding vintages and express the unique character of our Foggy Hill Vineyard: ripe, intense and long-lasting fresh flavours, with firm yet rounded tannins.

The 2024 Foggy Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir delivers a powerful, sweet-fruited core, described by James Suckling - W**e Ratings team as “elegant and perfumed.” Whereas the 2022 ‘DEFINITUS’ Pinot Noir is driven more by savoury complexity, with layers of dry spice, and was named “an elite Pinot release from Brian Croser’s Foggy Hill Vineyard” by the W**epilot in last year’s The Vintage Journal South Australian W**e Guide.

These w**es will be available online and at our Cellar Door for just one more week. Don’t miss your chance to add them to your cellar.
