2020 Bobar Chardonnay, Yarra Valley

This texturally silken, supremely elegant effort transparently and kaleidoscopically combines moss, wet stone, gentian, buddleia, coriander, pepper, piquant yet rich nut oils and a saline clam broth savour that milks the salivary glands. But besides this impressive array of non-fruity components, white peach and lemon deliver abundant primary juiciness and animating tang, rendering the finish as invigorating and refreshing as it is vibrant, mouthwatering and dynamically complex.

Happy weekend friends!

It’s kinda cold and s**tty outside, but here at House Wine, we’ve got the remedy.

For Saturday and Sunday, we’ll be offering 2 hour delivery from the time you order. You might even get a free ton of beer, courtesy of Alastair Reed, the tin man.

Anyway, here’s the run down of the third wine in our pack;

2020 Minim Wines, Sangiovese, Heathcote

Whole berry mostly, though a portion is carbonic maceration. From Chalmers Vineyard. Aromatic red of spice, sweet fruitiness, herbal notes, set to just on medium weight, sheathed in fine, feathery tannins, finishes succulent, firm and vibrant. Dark cherry, black brined olive characters, a bit of mulberry flavour and the finish is bony, stony and drying like black tea - Mike Bennie

Not mentioned, is that Tim is a really lovely man and probably the most sartorial of the group.

Equal parts Sauvy and Viognier, on skins for 3 weeks then sent to oak for 9 months. Lees work, to soften the early pick, natural acidity. Smells like an electric lawnmower going over a split tin of peaches in grass 3 weeks overdue for a mow

First wine off the blocks is the 2021 Mt Midoryama Classic Edition Petillant Naturel, Dolcetto/Chardonnay, King Valley

We call this our party pet nat , which is kind of lame (We agree) but kind of accurate. Grown down the mountain from home base in the Whitlands by the great man Richard Carson. The origins of the wine are disputed, Sam believes it was his idea, But Al knows for a fact it wasn’t. But what an inspired blend it is. Dolcetto is a real fruit forward pleasure machine and combined with racy Chardonnay and a touch of Gewürztraminer, gee whiz it makes for an electrifying blend. Get your rave on….

Introducing our second last wine of the release, 2020 DBD ‘Electric’ Marsanne. Grown by the legends on the red dirt of Colbo in Heathcote. 3 weeks skin contact and aged in a combo of old wood and stainless steel. It’s like drinking apricot nectar and lime cordial. Oi Oi! How’s this weather?.... while it might be s**t outside, here’s something that will brighten up your day. 2020 Konpira Maru ‘Disco Pocket’! A blend of Riesling and Vermentino from Ararat and Heathcote which the cool cats at Konpira left on skins overnight for a bit of texture.

“This wine was inspired by the man of the people Ben "Bantsy" Loughman. He's a very very handsome man with impeccable music tastes and harder buns than a gluten-free bakery. Talking of handsome, in 2020 this wine is a sort of origin story for Konpira Maru's own Sam Cook. We have combined the Riesling from the Aradale Vineyard in Ararat (the vineyard where Sam made his first commercial wine) and Vermentino from the Chalmers Family's Merbein Vineyard, the site where we made our first Konpira wine.”

Happy almost Friday housemates!

Wine number 3 of the new pack, 2019 Patsy from - A tasty little blend of Vermentino and Fiano from multiple sites in Heathcote. Here’s what old mate Tim has to say about it......

“This is basically an attempt to make something from grapes that drinks like a martini...or a really good fino....or even sake. Super textural, refreshing white drinks that make you feel happy and want to drink 1000 more. Briny and complex but tight acid and restrained fruit. So this is what i did: Colbinabbin Fiano (65%) destemmed and cold soaked on skins for 3 days and Redesdale Vermentino (35%), whole bunch pressed to stainless. Both parcels fermented separately in stainless steel tanks, blended towards the end ofprimary ferment and aged on s**tloads of lees over winter. Racked clean and bottled under natural cork with a whiff of sulphur. Savoury and spiced with crisp acidity, ripe primary fruit and a softening leesy texture that brings balance in the glass. Made for summer, serve cold!!”

Introducing the newest member of the housewine family. Yuri Zinenko and his .wine Syrah for Seasides’

Notes here from the man himself “2018 80% partially destemmed Syrah + 20% whole bunch Viognier. Co-fermented.

The viognier was picked really early to keep the wine bright. Slightly richer wine this year with lifted aromatics and a lees rounded finish. It saw old white oak barrels. No filteration or fining and minimal S02

Expect red frogs, apricot Weiss bar and a slice of peppery sopressa in your tuck box”

Hi Friends!

We’ve got a new pack, so we thought we would introduce you all to the new wines!

First up is 2019 Syrah. Probably the classiest wine of the 6. Here’s some notes from Tom & Sal;

“Our first vintage from the new Dixons Creek home of Bobar Syrah to the north of
Yarra Glen. In the foothills of the Great Dividing Range, the extra altitude and a
gentle south facing slope of this site bring restraint and purity to the generosity of
fruit of the valley floor.
Uncrushed whole bunches of Syrah were sealed and left for 14 days of carbonic maceration before pressing to stainless steel for the completion of ferment and maturation till the end of Winter. Bottled in September 2019.
Limpid red with a super fragrant nose of cherries, mulberry and rose garden interwoven with savoury threads of black olive, liquorice and green peppercorn.
The palate is light to medium bodied and sweet fruited. A sense of pillowy fullness, berries and cherries fill the mouth with a tautness that pulls into the back of the mouth lending length and resolution to the abundance of bright fruit.
