Lot 2 is one of those pieces you have to see to believe.

A large nautilus shell, the natural spiral providing an extraordinary canvas, worked over with an elaborate programme of hand-painted Hindu iconography. Black ink against the creamy white of the shell's own surface, the line work fine, dense, and continuous across the decorated face.

Large, well-formed, and in excellent condition.

Royal Albert's Old Country Roses needs little introduction: generous bouquets of crimson, pink, and amber roses with dark green foliage, set against a white ground and finished throughout with a gilded scalloped border.
