Newlaw slams time based billing.

In a torrent of LinkedIn comments last week, lawyers in the NewLaw space across Australia have slammed the billable hour and argued clients prefer fixed fee pricing.

A sad read. Too many examples like this pervade the legal profession and have for decades.
While not of course a cure all for all that ails the profession, until the legal profession makes a paradigm shift and changes its business model from one that essentially leverages professionals x time x hourly rate (with all its deleterious effects),the profession will continue to only deal with the symptoms rather than the causes.
In the meantime many professionals will continue to suffer and many will leave the profession while many leaders of-and consultants to-Oldlaw pay lip service to these issues to prop up their outmoded and sub optimal business model primarily for short term financial motives.
