"Nothing is great unless it is good" is the mission statement that has guided Tyrrell's Wines for over 150 years; and since Edward Tyrrell established the winery in 1858, we have continued to produce premium wine from what are now some of the oldest vineyards in the world. Headed by fourth generation family member Bruce Tyrrell, Tyrrell's is one of Australia’s oldest family owned wineries. We produce some of the country’s most renowned wines, including the iconic Vat 1 Semillon, and since 1971 our wines have been awarded over 5,500 trophies and medals. Tyrrell's Wines is a proud member of Australia's First Families of Wine and along with our original, historic vineyard in Hunter Valley, we have expanded into other premium Australian wine regions like Heathcote, VIC and the Limestone Coast, SA. We are proud to share that Tyrrell's has been named number 2 in Halliday's Top 100 W**eries for 2026.

Congratulations to the other w**eries recognised in the Top 5. We are in excellent company, with Mount Mary taking the number one position this year, followed by Tyrrell’s, Yarra Yering, Giaconda and House of Arras. We also extend special congratulations to our Hunter Valley counterparts, Brokenwood and Mount Pleasant, on their inclusion in the Top 25.

Thank you to Katrina Butler and the team at Halliday for these warm words about Tyrrells: "Tyrrell’s is one of Australia’s great family w**e businesses, with more than 160 years of history, five generations of family ownership and an unwavering commitment to the Hunter Valley. The estate has survived changing fashions and markets without losing sight of what makes it distinctive: old vines, long-lived w**es, and the community that has loved and adored their family and their w**es. The continuity at Tyrrell’s is unusually tangible: chief w**emaker Andrew Spinaze has been at the address for 46 years, senior w**emaker Mark Richardson for 30, and cellar foreman Darren Larson has just celebrated 40 years."

As fifth-generation w**emaker and CEO Chris Tyrrell puts it: “Same vineyard, same yeast, same w**emaker, same cellar, same cellar hands, same everything. And that is what makes us, us. It's not just the w**e, it's the people, it's everything."

Katrina Butler continues, "Fourth-generation Bruce Tyrrell AM has spent a lifetime championing Hunter semillon, often putting the region before the w**ery. His daughter, Jane Tyrrell, says: “It’s always been Hunter Valley semillon before Tyrrell’s semillon. When he’s taken that message to the world, it’s Hunter before Tyrrell’s.” His advocacy helped put Hunter semillon on the best shelves here and abroad, and this year Bruce was inducted into the James Halliday Hall of Fame in recognition of that contribution.

"This year’s results show a pleasing symmetry. The 2025 Johnno’s Semillon, named after Bruce’s eldest son John and first made in 2009, is the first Tyrrell’s semillon to be named Halliday Semillon of the Year. It’s a fitting recognition of Bruce’s decades-long belief in the variety and its capacity to reward patience."

"More than 160 years in, Tyrrell’s remains deeply rooted in the Hunter and committed to ensuring its w**es and old vines have plenty more chapters to come." Katrina Butler, Halliday W**e Companion

INVITATION | Heritage Vines Dinner, 6:30pm, Tuesday 27 October 2026 at Lana at Hinchcliff House in Sydney.

Chris Tyrrell warmly invites you to join him and some of the Hunter Valley's most iconic producers to celebrate our region's treasured old-vine sites, and the w**es they produce.

As part of NSW W**e Month, seventeen of the Hunter Valley’s leading producers will gather at Lana in Sydney for an extraordinary tasting and dinner.

"The Hunter Valley is the birthplace of the Australian w**e industry and we are thrilled to be able to show you the w**es from these old vines, alongside our Hunter friends. This is the first time that our region has come together to shine a light collectively on our old vine resources. This is an event not to be missed." - Chris Tyrrell

Across the Hunter Valley, 56 vineyards are recognised as Heritage Vineyards, each more than 50 years old and planted on original rootstocks. Some, including our Old Patch Vineyard planted in 1867, date back more than a century, with 14 vineyards now over 100 years old. These living pieces of Australian w**e history offer a rare expression of site, season, and generations of knowledge passed from one custodian to the next.

For the first time in Australia, these old-vine Hunter Valley w**es united by the age and heritage of their vineyards will be presented side by side. Guests will taste these distinctive w**es and hear directly from the w**emakers and custodians who continue to care for these historic plantings, discovering the stories of the land, the families, and the vintages that define them.

We look forward to welcoming you to this special gathering of Hunter Valley heritage, book your tickets now: www.tyrrells.com.au/heritage-vines-dinner

Flowering is one of the most critical times in the vineyard and the weather during this time is a key factor in determining the quality of the vintage.

Pictured here is our Short Flat Vineyard, renowned for its Semillon vines dating back to 1923, which contribute to our flagship Vat 1 Semillon. In addition to Semillon, the vineyard also grows Chardonnay from vines planted in 1968 that produce Vat 47 Chardonnay, as well as Shiraz planted in 1968 that plays an integral role in the blend of our flagship Vat 9 Shiraz.

With the arrival of spring, our vineyards are coming to life with delicate new growth signalling the beginning of Vintage 2027. Pictured here is our Belford Vineyard, planted in 1933, alive with colour and vitality, a beautiful example of sustainable viticulture in action.

The rows of white flowers you see are the mature Buster Radish; part of a specially designed perennial cover crop blend, tailored to the needs of Tyrrell’s dry-grown vineyards. The strong roots of the plants open channels in the soil, allowing water infiltration, to improve moisture reach to the vine roots. As they grow, the radishes store water. Once mature, they break down slowly, releasing that moisture back into the soil over time. Their decomposition adds valuable organic matter, while their abundant foliage and striking flowers further enrich the soil as they return to the earth.

The warm early days of spring have energised the vineyards, encouraging healthy growth and preparing the vines for what we hope will be a truly exceptional Vintage 2027.

Presenting our member-exclusive Private Bin White Release w**es from Vintage 2026.

"This release is of the rare, and luckily second in a row, where we were blessed with both quality and quantity. As I have said before, the best vintages of whites, particularly Semillon, are the ones where the tonnes per acre is high and the juice to skin ratio is high. This combination often produces long-living, classic Semillons that drink well young, but age terrifically. 2005 and 2006 were two back-to-back vintages that have turned out to be true classics, and I believe 2025 and 2026 will follow the same trajectory and be forever linked as a classic pair of vintages."
- Fifth Generation Chris Tyrrell

The release is led by our Trophy-winning 2026 HVD Semillon, which was crowned ‘Best Current White W**e’ at the Sydney Royal W**e Show last month.

On the 2026 white release w**es, Bruce Tyrrell, AM shares, "The w**es all have loads of fruit on the palate, shall all live well into the future but I think we will all be surprised how well they will drink as young w**es. "

Today, our Private Bin members receive exclusive pre-release access to these w**es. If you would like the opportunity to purchase these w**es, please visit the link in our bio to learn more about Private Bin Membership.

We look forward to presenting these w**es to our Private Bin members over the next few weeks at our White Release masterclass events around the country, hosted by Chris Tyrrell (pictured) and Andrew Spinaze.
