Three new plantings at our Rosehill Vineyard on Broke Road mark an exciting next chapter for Mount Pleasant and reflect our continued belief in the future of the Hunter Valley.
For the first time, we have planted pinot noir at Rosehill. With its lower elevation and cooler conditions, the site produces shiraz of remarkable elegance and fine-boned structure, suggesting pinot noir is a natural fit here too.
We have also planted cabernet sauvignon, inspired by the success of this variety at nearby Lake’s Folly and the connection between our two stories. Max Lake’s pioneering belief in Hunter Valley cabernet was shaped in part by Maurice O’Shea’s success with shiraz at Rosehill.
O’Shea’s influence extended well beyond Mount Pleasant, and today these two varieties stand among the most distinctive and enduring expressions of the Hunter Valley.
Completing the new plantings is malbec, a distinctive variety we believe has genuine potential in the Hunter and at Rosehill and we are excited to explore its ability to produce vibrant, red-fruited w**es.
As one of the few Hunter w**eries sourcing fruit exclusively from our own vineyards right here in the Hunter, we remain committed to investing in our region. These three blocks look firmly to the future: to what is possible for Rosehill, for Mount Pleasant and for the Hunter Valley as a whole. **es Hunter Valley W**e Adrian Sparks
