From terrible bathtub chardonnay, to crafting our 2026 wines.. We’ve got someone to introduce you to.
That’s right, we’ve got some exciting news… we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Kenny, our fabulous new consultant winemaker. With Ang sipping into retirement, Andrew has taken the reins. Originally from the Adelaide Hills, he and his wife, Victoria moved to the Clare Valley 11 years ago.
In keeping with our team series, we sat down with Andrew so you can get to know who is behind the 2026 wines you’ll soon be enjoying.
- Q) How long have you been in the wine industry? A) I started making wine in 2011 but had worked in vineyards prior, also had made some pretty terrible bathtub chardonnay. 🛁 😂
- Q) What style of wines are you excited about? A) Most wine styles have a time for me, at the moment I'm loving Pinot Blanc based champagne, and always have time for bright fruit driven reds, that aren't simple but show depth.🍷
- Q) What excites you about working with Hill River Wines? A) To play around with an array of varieties and really hone in on what is best suited for the site. The flexibility to shift across blocks or varieties when challenging conditions arise. For example, this year we pivoted from Nero d'avola to Cabernet franc after the rain events and couldn’t be happier with the results. The team is also great to work with, a lot of positivity and excitement in the air. 🫶
- Q) What do you love about wine making? A) I love closing the loop from vine to bottle. you plant grapes, prune them every year and get a different raw product each year to work with
