I had the opportunity to speak with growers at the AUSVEG SA Regional Roundup in Murray Bridge on Wednesday evening.

It was an opportunity to hear concerns from growers and talk through my proposed carve-out of primary production within the Local Nuisance and Litter Control Act. Farmers should not be penalised for simply doing their job.

🌱 VegNET SA is strengthening grower engagement and knowledge sharing across the state.

This season, two standout initiatives have brought together growers, industry leaders and students to share insights and build connections.

At the Regional Round Up Murraylands and Mallee, more than 60 attendees came together for updates on national projects, water market strategies, succession planning, chemical regulation and emerging AgTech. The event provided practical knowledge and a valuable forum for discussion.

VegNET SA also engaged the next generation through a partnership with the University of Adelaide’s horticultural production program. Students toured commercial farms, learned from growers about production systems and industry challenges, and pitched innovative solutions to real-world horticultural problems.

🤝 These initiatives highlight the value of collaboration in supporting today’s growers while investing in the leaders of tomorrow.

Yesterday AUSVEG SA hosted our annual Mission to Parliament where we bring a number of growers to Parliament to bring industry issues to key decision makers.

We thank our AUSVEG SA Parliamentary Friends of Horticulture patrons the Hon Nicola Centofanti MLC and the Hon Reggie Martin MLC for hosting us for the day.

We also thank the many members of parliament who made time to have meaningful discussions on some of the challenges the horticulture industry is facing leading into the next state election.

The day capped off with a reception in the parliamentary courtyard which gave our grower members in attendance an opportunity to discuss initiatives they would like to see for our $3 billion sector. We also were able to thank the ministers and members who regularly get on the phones with us week to week in support of our state's vegetable growers.
