Port Augusta Aquatic Centre Community Consultation

The Port Augusta Aquatic Centre building is reaching the end of its useful life and requires significant repairs and upgrades to remain operational. Council must consider whether continuing to invest in the aging facility represents the best use of public funds and community land.

Council encourages all interested residents, community groups and stakeholders to participate in the consultation process.

📹 Improving Safety in Port Augusta

The Building Safer Spaces Project is a partnership between Port Augusta City Council and the Government of South Australia, working to improve safety and reduce antisocial behaviour in our community.

As part of the project, a new mobile CCTV unit will be deployed across key locations, including:
📍 Hobby Avenue
📍 Volunteer Park
📍 East Side under-bridge area

The unit includes four fixed cameras and one pan-tilt-zoom camera, which can be moved and zoomed to provide greater visibility.
Council and SAPOL will both have access to the CCTV system, providing valuable real-time information to assist with community safety and policing.

The cameras will also provide a visible presence to help deter antisocial behaviour.

This is one of a number of measures being delivered through the Building Safer Spaces Project to help create a safer, more welcoming Port Augusta for residents, businesses and visitors.

🏀 New lights at Hancock Stadium! 💡

The lights at Hancock Stadium have been upgraded to provide a better playing experience for everyone using the courts.

The lighting upgrade is part of the continuing refurbishment of the stadium and follows the landscaping improvements at the entrance earlier this year.

Once the works are complete, the lighting will be able to be controlled separately for each court, making the space more flexible for users.

Another improvement helping keep Hancock Stadium a great place to play! 🙌

Port Augusta, meet your newest mural artist!

After more than 60 community votes were cast to select the design that will adorn the newly-built accessible toilet block at Keith Jones Memorial Park, the winning artist was Glen Gearing from Glen Gearing Man Of Colours with his colourful pastoral design paying tribute to the history of Yudnapinna Homestead and the Homestead Park Pioneer Museum.

Hailing from Port Pirie, Glen’s deep connection to the upper Spencer Gulf region is conveyed through his hand-painted, highly detailed and historically inspired public art murals.

The mural painting at Keith Jones Memorial Park will begin today and continue throughout September – keep an eye out for updates on the painting’s progress and completion!
