A basic eye exam does check the same thing - vision, your macula, your optical nerve, cornea but the extent and depth of the exam is what sets independent optometrists apart.

Are you one of the 6.3 million Australians who have short-sightedness?

Known as myopia it's predicted that 50% of Australians will have it by 2040 - that's potentially 14-15 million people 🤯

The most common treatment is with standard vision correction like glasses or contact lenses. Other options also include refractive surgery to reshape the cornea, or Ortho-K lenses.

Haven't heard of Ortho-K? It's not a new treatment - having being around since the 60s - however, advances in technology have made it a more mainstream option for those wishing to move away from glasses or who don't want to go down the surgery route.

The advantages of Ortho-K include:
- no more dirty or dusty glasses or contact lenses, especially when you work on site
- you can now swim, dive or play sports without the discomfort of glasses or needing specialty contact lenses
- no need for refractive eye surgery
- wearing them to sleep as they gently reshape your cornea

If these ticked a lot of boxes for you, the good news is we can start the process for Ortho-K lenses in our clinic. We have the devices and technology to map the shape of your cornea for the lens, and once they arrive we can teach you how to correctly use the lens including fitting them in your eye. We'll also manage the follow-up and ongoing care to make sure they continue to fit properly.

As someone who has grown up in rural and regional Australia I wanted to change this narrative.

One of the perks of being an independent optometrist is getting to pick out the toys... ahem, equipment we get to use in our clinic.

We didn't decide to invest in leading edge technology because we wanted to be a fancy-shmants optometrist.

We did it because we believe in giving everyone fair access to the best level of service available to them.

We don't make you pay extra for in-depth eye testing, nor do we make the decision to withhold it just because we think you don't need it.

Every one who books with us gets the same level of care and access to our tech. Everyone gets an OCT, retinal and peripheral vision test. Everyone gets extensive ocular imaging. Everyone gets their results explained to them in plain English so you walk out the door knowing more about your eyes than when you came in.

And if we do find something? We've got the tools and expertise to work with your specialist to manage your treatment locally, not in Perth.
