📣 Entries closing soon – Mid North Coast Business Awards 2026

Entries for our regional Business Awards are closing shortly, with submissions due Monday, 6 July.

Each year, we see businesses across our region delivering exceptional outcomes, often without seeking recognition. These Awards provide an opportunity to step back, reflect, and showcase that work in a credible and respected forum.

Last year’s Business of the Year, Billabong Zoo, described the experience as unexpected, but one they will never forget. From being honoured to be nominated through to achieving success at both regional and state level, their journey highlights the broader impact these Awards can have, not just for the business, but for its people.

The Awards recognise excellence across categories including innovation, leadership, sustainability, visitor experience, workplace culture and community contribution.

🆕 This year also introduces a new category:
Excellence in Workplace Health & Wellbeing - recognising organisations that prioritise safe, supportive and high-performing workplaces.

Entering provides an opportunity to:

🔹 Strengthen your business profile and reputation

🔹 Showcase measurable achievements and impact

🔹 Recognise and celebrate your team

If you are considering an entry, focus on real outcomes, be concise in your responses, and don’t underestimate the value of your story.

Last week, we delivered our Economic Updates 2026 series across Taree, Port Macquarie, and Coffs Harbour.

These events brought together business, government, and community leaders to share insights on the economic outlook and what it means for our region.

We extend our thanks to our speakers: Nathan Wallwork (Business NSW) and Aswin Clarke (Commonwealth Bank), alongside regional insights from Dennis Christensen (MidCoast Council), Duncan Coulton (Port Macquarie‑Hastings Council) and Murray Wood (City of Coffs Harbour).

While it remains a challenging time for business across NSW, it was reassuring to hear that many of the major economic pressures are expected to ease rather than deteriorate further, with recent global disruptions largely impacting sentiment and fuel prices in the near term, rather than driving prolonged decline.

Encouragingly, our councils reinforced that there are strong pipelines of local projects, continued investment activity, and forward momentum across the Mid North Coast, highlighting the resilience and long-term focus of our region.

We also acknowledge Rob Dwyer MP and Gurmesh Singh MP, Mayors Nikki Williams and Steve Allan, and all council representatives for contributing valuable local perspectives.

Strong collaboration is key to ensuring the Mid North Coast remains a place where businesses can invest, grow and thrive.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to these discussions.

Winning Business of the Year wasn’t something the team at Billabong Zoo expected, but it’s something they’ll never forget.

From being “absolutely honoured” just to be nominated, to going on and winning at both regional and state level, their story is a reminder of the impact these awards can have, not just on a business, but on the people behind it.

At the heart of it all? Their team. Passionate people doing extraordinary work every day.

The Regional Business Awards aren’t just about winning. They’re about recognising the businesses that are quietly making a difference across our region.

If you’ve ever considered entering, this is your sign to take that next step.

Business NSW was pleased to bring together industry, government and business leaders for the launch of our policy paper, Keeping Regional NSW Connected: The Future of Our Airports, at Port Macquarie Airport.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to a constructive discussion on the critical role regional airports play in supporting business, tourism, freight, health services and emergency response across our communities.

As highlighted in recent coverage, regional aviation is facing real challenges, from high airfares and service reliability to broader industry uncertainty, all of which have tangible economic impacts on regional businesses and communities.

Our newly released paper sets out a clear, practical pathway to strengthen regional aviation, including long‑term planning, infrastructure investment, improved service reliability and workforce development. It reflects what we are consistently hearing across the Mid North Coast and beyond: without coordinated action, connectivity - and the economic growth it underpins - is at risk.

Big thank you to Leah Tucker and Simon Westaway for presenting the paper and their regional findings.

It was also great to hear from our panellists:
Robert Fish - GM, Port Macquarie Hastings Council
Craig Shaw - CEO, Coffs Harbour Airport
Luke Campbell - GM, Pacific Bay Resort
Jac Birt - Head of the School of Business, CSU

We would like to extend a special thank you to Port Macquarie Airport and Port Macquarie Hastings Council for partnering with us to deliver this important event in the region, and for their ongoing leadership in supporting a strong and sustainable aviation network.

Behind every successful business is a story.

Not just the headline result, but the decisions, setbacks, persistence, growth and leadership that made that result possible.

That is why the Mid North Coast Regional Business Awards matter.

They do more than recognise excellence, they give local businesses an opportunity to share the story behind their success and, in doing so, help others better understand what achievement in business really looks like.

That is also why we are delighted to have Rob Carlton join us again as MC for the 2026 Mid North Coast Regional Business Awards. As highlighted in this month's Coffs Coast Focus , Rob brings a genuine appreciation for the power of stories, not polished versions of success, but the honest stories that reveal resilience, effort and purpose.

In a business awards setting, that matters.

The strongest business stories do not just celebrate outcomes; they show the character, commitment and hard work behind them.

We are pleased to have Rob leading the evening and helping bring those stories to life as we celebrate the businesses and individuals shaping the Mid North Coast.

If your business has a story worth sharing, now is the time to enter.

It was encouraging to see such strong engagement across our Xceptional Academy - Neurodiversity Inclusion Workshops in Taree, Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour.

These sessions were very well received, with leaders and teams demonstrating a genuine openness to learning, reflection and practical change. The willingness to deepen understanding of neurodiversity in the workplace is critical if we are to build stronger, more productive and more inclusive teams across our region.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed, and to our partners

Port Macquarie Hastings Council
City of Coffs Harbour
