Since 1995, Biosis Heritage Consultants have worked with Aboriginal stakeholder groups and Registered Aboriginal Parties across urban and regional areas of Victoria and NSW.

“ I try to impress on our heritage consultants that the work goes deeper than the assessment and excavation work. We strive to develop relationships with our Aboriginal stakeholders and knowledge holders, and through that process we gain a shared understanding.”
Samantha Keats, Biosis Manager, Heritage NSW

Biosis heritage consultants are known for developing positive community relationships, along with offering planning pathway advice for complex and large multi-partner projects.

This map represents the extent of our existing relationships.

Biosis Principal Ecologist Dr John Martin and colleagues quantified the dramatic return of the Australian Brush-turkey across the Sydney region over recent years, as the Sydney Morning Herald explains.

Brush-turkeys have spread from 20 to 300 Sydney suburbs over the past 25 years. Yet we lack an understanding of their daily and seasonal movements. Biosis have expertise in biodiversity assessment, including wildlife management plans, monitoring, GPS tracking, and acoustic surveys.

Biosis is proud to have sponsored the Biodiversity Across the Borders Conference 2026, Biodiversity in the Balance: Conservation in a Changing World!

This was the 11th iteration of this conference, focused on bridging gaps between environmental agencies, councils, government, and industry.

Our team was present on the day in Ballarat, Victoria and had the opportunity to attend talks on grassland restoration, post-mining woodland restoration, and the use of audio recording for bird population assessments.

Thank you to all speakers and host Federation University Australia, La Trobe University, Deakin University, RMIT University, Charles Sturt University and The University of Melbourne.

Happy World Environment Day!

Today, Mitchell Deaves, Sam Trollope, Philip Gidley, Hannah Cope-Williams, and Jaymie-lee Hunt from our Victorian team had the opportunity to attend Melbourne Airport's annual World Environment Day event.

Alongside a number of Melbourne Airport's key partners, Biosis team assisted with the planting of 2,000 trees and shrubs along the Moonee Ponds Creek corridor. It was a cracking, sunny winter's day and a rewarding event to be part of.

Today marks the end of National Reconciliation Week; a time for each of us to explore how we can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

At Biosis we began the week by reflecting on the work done on our Reconciliation Action Plan over the past two years. You can view the plan here:
https://www.biosis.com.au/biosis-reconciliation-action-plan/

And today we concluded the week with morning tea in our offices, featuring delicious food from Aboriginal-owned business Jarrah Catering and Kallico Catering.

Can we harness the combined power of thermal and acoustic monitoring with pattern recognition technology to shine a light on the invisible world of Australian microbats?

Biosis Senior Zoologist in Bat Ecology, Felicity Williams, will present the results of new in-field research at the Australian Wind Industry Forum 2026, which is visualising at-height bat behaviour by combining thermal video with machine learning and ultrasonic bat call detectors to better estimate collision risk.

The results could prove a gamechanger for windfarm collision risk management.

It's National Archaeology Week and layer by layer...

During excavations, Biosis archaeologists work stratigraphically, removing soil in controlled layers (known as “pits”) typically in 10cm increments. This layer-by-layer approach helps uncover cultural artefacts such as stone tools while preserving the site’s context.

Recording the precise location and depth of artefacts allows our team, in partnership with Aboriginal representatives, to better understand the timing, intensity and nature of past land occupation during the analysis phase of our surveys.

What a great turnout at our inaugural Biosis technical seminar on Heritage, Ecology, and Environmental Approvals!

During the seminar, we heard from our expert consultants (Jake Schwebel, Anthea Vella, Mark Roberts) about practical insights into the value of early engagement and how proactive planning can help streamline approvals and reduce project risks. James Shepherd, our Technical Director, presented on our capability to identify heritage and ecology constraints early and to deliver the findings in a streamlined, client-friendly report that supports decision-making from pre-acquisition through to design phase due diligence.

A big thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the discussions. We look forward to welcoming you to the next Biosis event!

It was our pleasure to sponsor an inspiring autumn networking lunch for the Victorian Women in Renewables network at Pepe’s, Melbourne.

More than 100 women came together, margaritas in hand, to connect, collaborate and share powerful ideas, including:
• How women can support each other to tackle the critical labour shortage needed to meet our renewable energy targets
• Driving momentum on closing the gender pay gap and demanding greater transparency across the sector
• Standing strong and challenging regressive, toxic opposition when women advocate for their rights

A big thank you to speaker Biosis senior heritage consultant Amy Wood, Eku Energy Julia Pfeiffer-Rieche, hosts Grace Stewart, Vanessa Ong and Rebecca Wardle, alongside Eku Energy and Cogency Australia for bringing this incredible event to life.
