Last weekend Ewan competed in KA3 Senior Light for the first time at round one of the Victorian Country Series at Cobden. Qualifying was a bit of a struggle with the 12th quickest time on second hand wets. The rest of the weekend stayed dry and produced the following heat results.

Ewan started off the final in 4th and crossed the finish line in a solid 5th place ending a good first meeting in senior's.

Now that the Christmas break has finished, it's time to head out to the shed and make sure that the kart is ready for the start of the season. Below is a short list of things to check before your first trip to the track in 2026 ends in frustration.

- Look over all steering components for wear in rose joints, king pins bearings & steering column bearing. Check the steering alignment as this sometimes moves over time.

- Ensure brake pads aren't worn out and brake likes are in good condition. Also check that the fluid level is ok and fluid isn't a milky colour due to moisture.

- Check over the chain that it doesn't have any tight spots, damaged links or rollers. Ensure both engine and axle sprockets aren't worn to a sharp point or bent. Take the clutch drum off and check the hub for cracks. Ensure the needle roller bearing has sufficient lubrication.

- With the chain off, spin the axle to check if bent and bearings spin freely. If it sounds like a cement mixer then the bearings need to be removed, cleaned (or replaced), lubricated and reinstalled. This also applies to the front wheels.

- All fuel lines to be checked that they are not hard or cracked, these should all be soft. If running an inline filter then check for debris. Remove the airbox and filter and remove any debris in the airbox and blow the air filter out with air.

- The chassis should be checked over for cracks, loose or damaged bolts and cracks on the seat. Having a good look under the kart ensures all area's are covered.

- Charge all batteries before heading to the track for that first run.

Hopefully this check list ensures that your first trip to the track for the year is enjoyable.
