Waddamooli Dhulgurri,
Reconciliation Week is important because it reminds us that reconciliation is not a single moment in history. Itβs ongoing. It lives in conversations, in classrooms, in workplaces, in friendships and in the choices we make every day.
For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, culture is not something locked away in the past. Itβs living. Itβs family, language, connection to Country, community, knowledge and responsibility. And despite everything First Nations people have faced through generations of dispossession, discrimination and loss but our Culture is still strong.
Reconciliation does not ask anyone to feel guilt for the past. What it asks is that we acknowledge truth, recognise resilience and commit ourselves to building stronger relationships moving forward.
To everyone who attended today, thank you for showing up. Thank you for supporting these students, supporting culture and supporting community connection.
And finally, thank you to everyone who helped organise todayβs event, the students who presented, and the community members who continue to create spaces where people can come together respectfully and openly.
That is reconciliation in action.
