One of the biggest coaching challenges for people leaders is the pressure to constantly provide answers, solve problems quickly, and move fast.

But high performance teams aren’t built by leaders having all the answers.
They’re built by leaders who know how to create thinking, ownership and insight in others.

We recently facilitated a 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 workshop with the people leaders at HCF, exploring the neuroscience of coaching, performance and behaviour change.

Some of the key shifts we explored included:
✔️ Moving from “tell” to “ask”
✔️ Creating reward states that improve thinking and engagement
✔️ Using the GROW-WISE coaching framework to build insight and accountability
✔️ Leveraging CliftonStrengths to better understand leadership impact, decision-making and team motivation

Our 𝗔𝗜-𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 webinar explored how leaders can use AI not just for productivity — but for better thinking, stronger coaching and more strategic leadership.

What we’ve seen from utilising 𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗠 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴, with more than 10,000 managers mapped more broadly, is that the 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

They have built the human capabilities AI cannot replace: innovative thinking, empathy, influence and emotional intelligence.

This is the shift from technical expert to AI-enabled strategic leader.

A 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺:
“𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗜 𝗱𝗼?”

That one change turns AI from an answer machine into a strategic thinking partner.
There were some fantastic conversations around critical thinking, coaching with AI, divergent thinking, prompt engineering and keeping leadership human in an AI-enabled world.

The ability to speak confidently, engage your audience and influence people towards your message is not something people are simply born with — it is a highly learnable and trainable skill.

Whether it’s:
• presenting to senior leaders or Boards
• influencing clients or customers
• leading team meetings or toolbox talks
• engaging stakeholders
• or communicating through change
…your ability to capture attention, hold attention and emotionally engage your audience can significantly impact trust, buy-in and action.

We explored this with the team at Glencore Mangoola during our 𝗡𝗲𝘂𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 workshop in Muswellbrook.

A key focus of the session was understanding how the brain makes decisions, responds to emotion and ultimately “𝗯𝘂𝘆𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼” a message.

Because people do not remember the majority of information delivered to them.

They remember:
• how you made them feel
• whether they connected to your message
• your story, authenticity and purpose
• and whether your communication created trust, relevance and emotional engagement

We explored practical strategies around:
• starting with a strong hook
• sharing the “why” behind the message
• storytelling and vulnerability
• confident body language and tone
• interaction, humour and audience engagement
• and communicating in a way that moves people to action

Having presented in 25 countries across 15 keynote topics to more than 100,000 people, mastering the art of presenting and influence has been the cornerstone of our business over the last 20 years and has generated significant opportunities to work with leaders and organisations globally.

One of the things I enjoy most now as an international keynote speaker is helping others strengthen their confidence, communication and ability to influence through speaking.

Because these skills can genuinely change careers, leadership impact and opportunities.

Congratulations Cathy Doyle on an incredible legacy of impact!

15 years ago, Cathy developed the first and only Australian drug and alcohol recovery program that allowed children to stay with their parent(s) during recovery — helping families heal together, rather than apart.

Today, I had the privilege of attending the 𝗢𝗱𝘆𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘆 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗟𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝗱𝘆𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘆 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗡𝗦𝗪 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 — an initiative that has now raised more than $1,000,000 and positively impacted countless lives by helping break the cycle of addiction while maintaining close family relationships.

Cathy – what a legend!! What an extraordinary achievement for the team involved in this!!

A huge thank you also to Natalie Barr for hosting such a meaningful event so beautifully, alongside an inspiring panel of speakers including Marcia Hines, Professor Jennifer Westacott AC, and Jess Gallagher.

I especially loved meeting Marcia Hines personally. I’ve been a fan since I was very young — my mum used to play her songs all the time — so that was a very special moment for me.

The stories, insights and shared experiences throughout the lunch were powerful reminders of the importance of connection, recovery, resilience and community support.

Programs like this genuinely change lives — not only for individuals, but for future generations of families. 💛

T𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗮 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺. 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.

When threat kicks in — fatigue, time pressure, safety risk — the amygdala fires, the prefrontal cortex goes offline, and leaders default to telling. Not because they don't care. Because the coaching part of their brain has been switched off.

This is why "𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀" training doesn't stick. You're asking leaders to use a part of their brain that pressure has temporarily shut down.

🧠 𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴. 𝗔𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴.

We explored this at our 𝗡𝗲𝘂𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻-𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 with frontline leaders at Glencore Mangoola in Muswellbrook.

Here's the one thing to try this week:
𝗕𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗷𝘂𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿, 𝗽𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝘀𝗸: 👉 "𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗲𝗲?"

That single question can move someone from dependence to independent thinking — in one conversation. Four words. Activates independent thinking. Builds a crew that doesn't wait to be told.

Grateful for the great conversations with the Mangoola teams around leading under pressure, influencing performance, and building insight-driven leadership on site.

• and others are over-relying on AI without enough critical thinking or judgement

This is no longer just a technology rollout.

It is a leadership challenge around:
• decision-making
• adaptability
• communication
• critical thinking
• and helping teams navigate change without losing confidence or clarity

Most of us use AI to speed up decisions. But that's not where the real power is.

Our brains default to 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 —undefined jumping to the nearest, most comfortable answer. Confirmation bias. Simplification bias. In-group bias. We don't even notice we're doing it.

Your brain takes shortcuts. AI doesn't have to. And that's exactly why it matters.

The leaders pulling ahead are using AI differently — as a 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿 that doesn't share your blind spots. It challenges your assumptions, forces alternate perspectives, and turns a challenge into 8 possible opportunities before you've committed to one path.

Today we saw that firsthand with supervisors at Springsure from Glencore Roleston. They realised the power they had at their fingertips — not just to save time, but to make more innovative, strategic decisions that improve productivity, lift morale, and reduce safety risks.

That's not efficiency. That's better leadership.

Try it on your next big decision: → "𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘮 𝘐 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦?" → "𝘞𝘩𝘰 𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘯'𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥?" → "𝘎𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘦 8 𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘯 𝘰𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺."

AI won't make the decision for you. But it will make sure you're not just picking the easy one.

AI is changing leadership faster than most organisations are prepared for.

Not because leaders suddenly need to become technical experts.

But because AI is changing:

* how decisions are made
* how leaders think
* how teams communicate
* how work flows
* and what human leadership is actually valuable for

The real challenge is not learning another tool.

It is learning how to lead well in an environment where:

* information is accelerating
* uncertainty is constant
* and critical thinking, judgement and trust matter even more.

Many organisations are still approaching AI as a technology rollout.

At the same time, leaders are navigating important questions:

* How do we integrate AI without over-relying on it?
* How do we maintain empathy, ethical judgement and human connection?
* How do we avoid creating overwhelmed teams and poor habits?

And how do we lead confidently when technology is evolving faster than organisations can comfortably absorb?

Join us for a no-charge webinar: 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗜: 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀

We'll explore the neuroscience and leadership implications of AI — and what leaders need to understand to remain effective in a rapidly changing environment.

We’ll explore:

* Why AI leadership is not really about AI
* Why AI is a leadership conversation, not just a technology conversation
* Leading through uncertainty and rapid change
* Human + AI thinking and the leadership capabilities that matter most
* Why AI will not change leadership unless leaders change habits
* AI as a leadership and strategy coach
* What leaders must protect as AI becomes more integrated into work

📅 Monday, May 25
⏰ 12:30pm – 1:30pm AEST
📍 Online via Zoom

This session is designed for leaders who want practical ways to use AI to improve thinking, decision-making, communication and leadership effectiveness — without losing the human judgement leadership depends on.

What stood out most in our 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗡𝗲𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 at HESTA?

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.

Together, Lizzy Keenan and I facilitated discussion and explored neuro-inclusive leadership, psychological safety and strengths-based approaches — but the most meaningful part of the session came from the honesty in the room.

People shared experiences as parents, carers, leaders and individuals navigating neurodiversity personally and professionally.

We explored the shift from trying to fit people into a “cookie-cutter” definition of leadership and performance…
to recognising that different brains bring different strengths.

Not creating inclusion as a “nice to have” —
but building workplaces where people can genuinely thrive.

Some of the important conversations included:
🧠 Neurodiversity as both an inclusion and performance conversation
💡 Creating psychological safety through better questions and more flexible ways of working
🤝 Moving beyond one-size-fits-all leadership approaches
🌱 Recognising and building on individual strengths
🚀 Creating environments where people feel safe to share what helps them do their best work

Another powerful theme was around leadership and culture.

𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀.
𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘂𝗽.

The way leaders listen, communicate and create safety has a significant impact on whether people feel seen, valued and supported at work.

Thank you to Lizzy and everyone at HESTA for creating such an open and meaningful space to begin these conversations. 💜

Spent the night under the stars in the country town of Mittagong… by an open fire… in preparation for my vodcast interview with Mark Bilton.

And honestly, it was the perfect setting for the kind of conversation we had the next day.

Mark is the Founder of Lead Well Live Well, former CEO of Gloria Jean’s Coffees, and works with leaders and entrepreneurs globally through YPO and executive facilitation. His work centres around helping leaders not just perform well — but lead well and live well.

We recorded the conversation in Mark’s beautiful studio in Mittagong and explored something so many business owners, entrepreneurs and leaders are navigating right now:

How do you actually get the best out of your brain under pressure?

We talked about the way pressure narrows thinking…
why leaders can become reactive without even realising it…
and the importance of creating room for insight and clear thinking.

Or as Mark calls it — “white space.”

That ability to step back, create thinking space, regulate emotion and reset perspective is often where the best ideas, decisions and breakthroughs come from.

We also spoke about simple but powerful strategies like:
Breathe. Label. Reappraise.

Not complicated performance hacks.
Just practical ways to help your brain work better when the pressure is on.

And somewhere in between all of that… a delicious lunch at PepperGreen with Mark and his lovely wife Helen.

A really enjoyable conversation with a genuinely thoughtful human. Looking forward to sharing the vodcast when it’s released.
