Sibling superyachts spotted off Puerto Portals… 👀⚓️

Mallorca has welcomed two seriously impressive yachts this week, belonging to Australian siblings Gretel and James Packer.

🛳️ ARCTIC
Originally built in 1969 as an ice-class salvage and rescue tug, Arctic was later transformed into a luxury expedition yacht by Australian media mogul Kerry Packer.

Now owned by his daughter Gretel, the yacht has spent much of the summer cruising Mallorca’s waters - and it’s certainly been turning heads.

🛳️ IJE – 108m
Moored nearby is her brother James Packer’s IJE, a spectacular 108-metre Benetti yacht delivered in 2019.
The name IJE is a personal one, inspired by the names of James Packer’s three children: Indigo, Jackson and Emmanuelle.

Two very different yachts, two fascinating stories — and another reminder that superyachts are about much more than size and luxury. They often have a history and personality of their own.

The original superyacht influencers… ⚓️ 👀
Long before social media, superyachts were making statements of their own.
We’ve been doing a little Feadship spotting and came across some fascinating yachts with equally fascinating stories.

🛳️ VENUS - 70m
Commissioned by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, Venus is instantly recognisable for her strikingly minimalist design.

Jobs worked closely with designer Philippe Starck on the yacht, pursuing the same clean, pared-back aesthetic that became synonymous with his approach to design.

Sadly, Jobs passed away in 2011, before Venus was launched. The yacht was subsequently delivered to his widow, Laurene Powell Jobs. Minimalist. Precise. And unmistakably different.

🛳️ TANGO - 78m
Another Feadship with a rather more complicated history. Tango was owned by Russian businessman Viktor Vekselberg and was arrested in Spain in 2022 following sanctions imposed on him.

The yacht has remained effectively stationary ever since — a striking reminder that behind the glamour of the superyacht world, ownership, geopolitics and regulation can sometimes create a very different story.

🛳️ PARAISO - 46.6m
And then there are the yachts that tell a story about the evolution of superyacht design.

Paraiso was one half of a pair of near-identical Feadship yachts built for Mexican media mogul Emilio Azcárraga, alongside Azteca. One kept ready for him in the Mediterranean, the other in the Caribbean.

Both were designed by legendary Australian yacht designer Jon Bannenberg and built in aluminium, reflecting their owner’s desire for speed. The result was something very different from the traditional yacht aesthetic of the era.

And perhaps that’s what makes these yachts so interesting: they weren’t simply built to be luxurious. They were built to say something.

🍽️ Rivergate Marina & Shipyard VIP Captain’s Lunch, bringing together Captains and Australian industry experts to exchange knowledge on refits, repairs, marinas, manufacturing, interiors, agencies, tourism, cruising itineraries, and operating throughout Australia and the South Pacific.

🥩 Pacific Provisions Crew BBQ Competition, where crews embraced the Aussie spirit with creativity, camaraderie, friendly competition, and some seriously impressive barbecue skills. Congratulations to everyone who took part!

🍻 Crew Networking Party, the perfect way to wrap up the Rendezvous - celebrating new connections, strengthening friendships, and enjoying Australian hospitality in true South Pacific style.

A huge thank you to all the wonderful Captains and Crew members who made such a lasting impression at the MYBA Charter Yacht Show 2026 in Sanremo, Italy. ⚓️🇮🇹
What stood out most to me wasn’t just the yachts themselves, but the atmosphere onboard - the politeness, the professionalism, and above all, the emotional intelligence of the crew. There was a genuine sense that people felt valued, empowered, uplifted and inspired in their roles.
You can feel it instantly when you step onboard and it shows in their smile.
We often say “happy crew, happy guests, happy owner” or “team work makes the dream work” and it’s absolutely true.
But that kind of environment doesn’t happen by chance. It’s a reflection of strong leadership and a culture that flows from the Owners & Captains through every level of the team.
When crew members respect one another and feel their contribution is valued onboard, it creates an energy that guests can’t help but notice. Even the most beautiful yacht can’t replace the experience created by a truly happy crew. We know that immaculate teak decks, service of delicious canapés & cocktails, beautiful table settings and the safety of all onboard doesn’t just happen without that teamwork.
Well done to everyone who is setting that standard - you’re what makes this industry so special. 🛳️ ✨ 🙌

Insightful, informative and genuinely inspiring speakers at yesterday’s Superyacht Australia Conference 2026 at Jones Bay Superyacht Marina - a valuable forum for taking the pulse of, and gaining perspective on, the direction of the Australian superyacht industry.

Key takeaway:
The perceived concern around Australia’s new legal requirements to identify a vessel’s Ultimate Beneficial Owner (UBO) is, in practice, nothing new. These requirements are already mandatory across many European countries and other international maritime jurisdictions.

Operators working with global clients and suppliers will already be familiar with UBO disclosure, due diligence, and KYC processes. For businesses that operate with robust compliance frameworks, this regulatory shift represents a positive opportunity - strengthening trust, transparency, and long-term resilience.

Importantly, these measures provide greater protection for Owners, Captains, and Operators alike, reducing risk and minimising the likelihood of unforeseen legal or tax complications. No surprises!
