Students check out our site 🔎 HVO recently hosted students for a close‑up look at our operations and rehabilitation areas.

The Dialogue’s School Mine Tours Program gives Years 5 and 9 students across the region the chance to learn about mining in a balanced, science‑based way - with more than 3,300 students taking part since 2018.

We're proud to support a program that helps young people build a clearer understanding of mining in the Upper Hunter.

Meet Jack - one of our HVO Coal Coordinators 👷‍♂️

Jack once worked on oil and gas rigs in Eastern Europe and the North Sea - and even moonlighted as a DJ when he first started in mining. How cool!

What Jack loves most about his job now is the variety of coal we mine at HVO and the scale of the operation.

He says the size of the place brings interesting challenges. "Getting to work with so many good people and learn new things every day is fantastic."

Jack’s role involves coordinating the coal mining process from the coal face through to the Coal Handling and Preparation Plant, keeping safety, production and quality front of mind at every step.

He joined HVO in 2017, spent nine years in technical services before recently making the jump into production - a move he’s really enjoying.

When he’s off the clock, Jack loves hanging out with his wife and son, keeping fit, catching live music and playing guitar.

We asked Jack what advice he'd give to someone starting out in his line of work, and he said: “Don’t hesitate to ask questions - if it’s on your mind, it’s probably on someone else’s too.”

Celebrating women in mining 💜 Inspiring our staff is what we like to do here at HVO.

Recently 20 of our female staff joined industry peers at an AusIMM event in the Hunter Valley to hear keynote speaker Tess Brouwer reflect on the strength, talent and leadership of women across our sector.

It was a great chance to network, be motivated and share some time off-site.

Heads up, pet owners!

If you live near or visit the Hunter Valley Operations area, please keep your dogs close to home from 11 May to 12 June.

HVO is running its autumn 1080 wild dog and fox baiting program across our land and surrounding biodiversity offset areas, to help protect native wildlife and support local farmers.

The baits used won't harm native animals, but they can affect domestic pets and working dogs.

So for the next few weeks, keep your furry mates on the lead and away from HVO land. Please note that surrounding mine sites will also be undertaking similar baiting programs during the same period. If you think your pet may have been exposed, get to a vet straight away.

Big hits start with great gear - just ask the Piranhas Cricket Club 🏏🔥

HVO has funded the club’s new bowling machine and iPad, giving junior players better training tools and helping coaches lift their game.

We love backing local sport and supporting the clubs that create opportunities for young athletes across our region.

Supporting collaborative pest management across our region 🐾🌿

Managing pests is a big job around a mine site, and part of our role is to keep them under control.

Some of our team recently took part in the Local Land Service Vertebrate Pest Field Day alongside local councils, government agencies and neighbouring mines.

It was a valuable opportunity to share knowledge, stay up to date on best‑practice control methods, and work together on proactive approaches to managing pest impacts across the Hunter.

What an experience at Voice for Mining Family Day! 💙❤️⛏️ A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by the HVO Fan Zone at McDonald Jones Stadium on Easter Sunday.

Our operator training simulator was a crowd favourite, giving fans the chance to experience what it’s like to sit in the hot seat of a dump truck and load up with coal. The experience came complete with the rumble of a 300‑tonne load.

Plenty of people also had a crack at guessing the weight of a wheelbarrow load of coal, and how big a haul truck tyre is. From families to die‑hard Knights supporters, it was great to see so many people getting involved, asking questions and learning more about mining in the Hunter.

We loved being part of the day and connecting with the community - thanks for making it such a memorable event.

Meet the Caterpillar D11 - a dozer built for serious groundwork 🚜

This heavyweight machine is made for tough conditions, pushing through big volumes with the power and stability our crews rely on, with incredible grip for demanding dozing and ripping work across site.

Inside the cab, the advanced technology means operators have features to keep them safe and comfortable throughout their 12-hour shifts in the hot seat!
