1,500 direct workers, their families and countless businesses are waiting for a decision from the NSW Independent Planning Commission (IPC).

HVO has already reduced the life of the project and reduced the total coal production from the project.

The Project meets NSW and Federal legislative and policy requirements.

Round Two of the 2026 HVO Community Grants Program opens today! 🌟

HVO supports local not‑for‑profit organisations and community projects across the Upper and Lower Hunter through its bi‑annual community grants program in April and September.

Applications for the second round of the 2026 program will be open for the entire month of September, giving people a full month to prepare and submit their ideas. The application form can be downloaded from our website.

Backing the return of rodeo to Jerrys Plains 🤠

The Jerrys Plains Rodeo Association is bringing back a much‑loved local tradition with its 2026 Junior Rodeo, creating opportunities for young competitors and boosting local businesses.

The 2026 Junior Rodeo will take place on Saturday 26 September from 9am — a great day out for families and the community.

We are proud to support this volunteer‑run event through our community grants program.

Meet Andrew - one of our emergency response coordinators 🦺

Andrew helps keep HVO prepared for anything.

His role covers emergency response compliance and team training, and working closely with NSW Police, the Rural Fire Service, NSW Ambulance and Fire and Rescue NSW.

He also maintains critical equipment like fire trucks and medical units.

What Andrew loves most is the diverse nature of the job — no two days are the same.

He joined HVO around nine years ago and has become a key part of keeping our site safe and ready.

Outside of work, Andrew continues giving back to the community as an on‑call firefighter with Singleton Fire and Rescue.

His advice for anyone starting out in emergency response?

“Don’t hesitate to ask questions.”

Supporting care at Singleton Hospital 🏥

The Singleton Hospital Auxiliary has been improving patient comfort for nearly 100 years.

With help from our community grants program, the team is adding three new cribs to the maternity unit to support families across the Hunter.

Thank you for proving that this mine matters! 🙏

Thousands of people have recently supported the Continuation Project with positive submissions to the Independent Planning Commission (IPC). Submissions are now closed and the message is clear — people believe that this mine matters.

We are so grateful to everyone who took the time to have their say. A big shout out to the hundreds of people who stopped and made a submission at our pop-up stalls at Singleton Square and Muswellbrook Marketplace. The response was overwhelming.

Stay tuned for the IPCs decision on the mine's future.

Fresh seats, full stands and a whole lot of court‑side energy! 🏀

Maitland Basketball Association is giving its stadium a well‑deserved upgrade, replacing 20‑year‑old seating with new, modern benches that will be used by more than 300,000 athletes, families and local sporting groups each year.

HVO is thrilled to get behind this upgrade through our Community Grants Program — helping keep community sport strong across the Hunter.

The Independent Planning Commission’s public exhibition of our Continuation Project closes next Sunday.

If you support our plans to continue mining, it is critical that you have your say.

Honestly, it's so nice seeing all of the support in the community for Hunter Valley Operations to continue mining into the future.

There's strong demand for our high-quality NSW coal for many years to come. But the main message we've been hearing at the public meetings held by the NSW Independent Planning Commission is that it means so much to so many people.

Plus the impacts of mining at the site can be managed, according to the NSW Department of Planning. Which is so positive given the massive economic contribution this mine makes in the community and for the NSW economy.

So thanks to everyone that has been supporting the mine and the 1500 mining families who jobs and living depends on it. Keep up the fight.
