Rainy weather leads to creative solutions. 🌧️
A string of wet weeks has put us to the test. We had a major European order to fill with a strict shipping deadline, but the relentless rain meant finding an alternative way to safely bring the timber back down to its ideal moisture content for shipment.
In our line of work, you lean on both time-tested science and coming up with creative solutions. To dry the timber evenly amid the damp conditions, we set the sets up near our fireplace. A method that requires ventilation to create uniform airflow across the timber.
To test the air flow, we used an old David trick. He took a strand of cobweb (something we’re never short of in the workshop) and suspended it near the timber. If the web dances, the air is moving as intended. It’s a simple solution that ensures our premium Australian timber arrives stable, seasoned, and ready for the luthier.
