New and available from Australian Kato retailers, the American N Gauge EMD SD90/43MAC numbers 3736 and 3750, both decorated in Union Pacific Yellow (product codes 176-5624 and 176-5625 respectively).

Prototype Information from Kato USA's website:

Weighing in at more than 400,000 pounds and with a length in excess of 80 feet and massive 4,300 horsepower tractive effort, the SD90/43MAC is one of the heaviest, longest, and most powerful single diesel locomotives in the world. To date, there have been three production “versions” of the SD90MAC. The SD90/43MAC was originally designed with a 6,000hp engine in mind, but was fitted with a smaller and more reliable 4,300hp engine that ended up being kept that way by most railroads, even though the option to upgrade to the higher horsepower engine was offered at a later date.

New and now available from Australian Kato retailers;
the E259 Airport Narita express in it's renewed colour scheme (product code 10-1933 for a 3 car powered set, and 10-1934 for a 3 car add on coach set).

For those of you who've travelled to Japan (or are planning to) you may recognise this as the express service connecting Tokyo's main airport and city centre. The prototype was originally porduced and put into service in 2009 and the colour scheme was updated to this appearance in 2023.

Kato have also included parts to allow the user to model open gangway doors at either end of the rake. Various rakes of these coaches often run together, and detach into seperate services at various junctions, hence the need to access the nose of the rake from inside the train.

New and now available from Australian Kato retailers, the British N Gauge GWR class 800/0 with Paddington Bear decoration (product code 10-1673).

Prototype information from Kato's website:

The Class 800 first entered service as the successor to the diesel high speed train “HST”, and now runs on the GWR (Great Western Railway) and LNER (London North Eastern Railway) main lines in the UK. The Class 800 is characterized by its body being "tucked in" near the bottom to match the UK railways clearance limit, and the yellow pattern on the front car, which enhances visibility. It is a bi-mode electro-diesel vehicle introduced as part of the “Intercity Express Program” (IEP) and installed with state-of-the-art equipment. As a major feature, the train collects power through the pantographs in electrified areas and uses diesel engines or power supplied from its generators in none-electrified areas, making it possible for it to run in both.
The Class 800 is also well known as a rare case of a Japanese train being selected to run on UK main lines. Hitachi Rail had to apply sophisticated railway technology to meet the high conditions out forth by the UK transportation ministry such as high fuel efficiency, a weight limit, operations at the maximum speed of 200 km/h, and switching the power supply source during operations.

We've just received a new shipment from Kato, which we will be posting up product details here over the next week or so.

First up, we have a restock of these F7A frieght train packs. These are excellent starter packs or gifts for those wanting to get into N Gauge American model railways, and make a great pairing for the M1 N gauge Unitrack starter set (but ofcourse, you can pair this with any other N gauge track system if you prefer).

Unlike many other starter train packs, these Kato options are produced to the same high standard (in both running and detail) to their other models trains.
