A profitable business has more money in, than out (over a long period of time). Cash in the bank is great for paying bills, but profit is what truly tells if your business is healthy.
The simple takeaways
• Cash is how much money you have right now (like looking at a snapshot).
• Profit is whether you’re making money over time (like watching a whole movie).
You can have a lot of cash today, but if you’re constantly spending more than you earn, or you owe a lot, or have some tax lodgements outstanding that come with a bill, that cash will eventually run out and you’ll become unprofitable.
