A message from your accountant asking for one more document can feel like something has gone wrong. In our process, it is a planned step.
A common assumption is that once the online form is complete and the documents are uploaded, the return is finished. Any message after that must mean a mistake, a problem or bad news.
At Baron Tax & Accounting, every online tax return follows the same six steps:
Step 1: You complete the online tax return form.
Step 2: You upload any required supporting documents.
Step 3: Your tax return is reviewed by a Registered Tax Agent.
Step 4: If further information is needed, your assigned accountant contacts you for clarification or additional documents.
Step 5: Once the return has been fully reviewed, we send it to you for final approval and electronic signature.
Step 6: Once you approve and electronically sign the return, we lodge it with the ATO.
Step four sits between submitting the form and approving the return. That is where the review does its work, before anything goes to the ATO.
A question at review stage is easier to answer now, with your records at hand, than to sort out after lodgement.
Before you lodge, keep your records ready to send, so a clarification question can be answered quickly and in full.
