Bowen Therapy – Every Body is better with Bowen

Bowen Therapy was created by Mr Tom Bowen in Geelong Australia, back in the 1950’s and over the years it has become better known throughout Australia and overseas. The first class of Bowtech Bowen Therapy was presented in Australia in 1986 and is now taught and practiced all over the world. Bowen Therapy is a unique skill, as it’s a gentle form of body work which enables the body’s own innate healing process to retrieve cellular memory of its preferred, relaxed, balanced way of well-being. The subtle moves of Bowen are performed on skin, innervating muscles, connective tissue, fascia and nerves, stimulating the body to heal itself. Frequent but essential pauses or ‘waits’ are performed throughout the treatment between sets of moves which provides the body the opportunity to start and continue the healing process. Bowen therapy addresses specific conditions as well as the entire body on all levels, making it a very effective and dynamic therapy. Often only a few sessions of Bowen are required to work on presenting issues, however every body is unique and so each session is catered to suit the requirements of that particular client and some people require less or more sessions based on their responses to the treatments. Here are some of the issues that Bowen can work with:
• Back pain and sciatica
• Digestive and bowel problems including IBS, constipation and
diarrhoea
• Ear-ache, ear infections, headaches and migraines
• Fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome
• Knee, ankle and foot problems
• Menstrual and hormonal irregularities, including fertility issues
• Neck/shoulder problems, including Frozen Shoulder
• Groin pain, pelvic tilt and uneven leg length
• Respiratory problems eg. Asthma and hay fever
• RSI, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow
• Sports and accident injuries
• Unsettled babies with Reflux or Colic
• TMJ misalignment, Sinus and Eye issues
• Oncology symptom support
• Dyslexia and ADD/ADHD
• Bells Palsy
• Stroke patients
• Pinched nerves
And so much more..............

After a treatment, clients are advised on:
• The 3 W’s – Water, Walk & Wait - Drink 6-8 glasses of water daily,
walk regularly & give the treatment time to process.
• Rest if required & take a brief walk around every 30mins to assist
in circulation.
• Avoid crossing your arms & legs.
• Practice a balanced posture, eg. While standing, have both feet flat
on the floor. This will maintain balance through the body.
• Avoid extremes of hot & cold, eg. Hot showers/baths, hot or cold
packs, saunas, spa’s, etc.
• Avoid contact sport or resistance training for at least 24hrs after a
treatment, as well as Magnets, eg, underlays, jewellery, etc.
• Avoid other modalities, eg, Massage or Chiropractic for 5 days
before & after a treatment.
• Reactions from treatments vary and can include emotional &
physical releasing. This is common, however if you have any
concerns in the days following your treatment please don’t hesitate
to contact me.
• Do any exercises that you have been instructed to do:

By following these guidelines clients will ensure their body is given the best possible chance to facilitate the healing and as a result their recovery time should be quicker. Massage, Physiotherapy, Chiropractic, Bowen, Acupuncture, etc., clients should contact their treating practitioner if they have any questions or concerns in regard to their session. Jenny Healy was a certified Bowtech Instructor based in Rockhampton, with Bowen Training Australia. Jenny is passionate about Bowen Therapy and during her time as an instructor she shared her love of this unique modality with those that had an interest in working with people and helping others enhance their quality of life, by assisting them in facilitating changes to their presenting conditions. As an instructor, Jenny placed an emphasis on training highly professional and well skilled students/practitioners, who in turn shared their newfound abilities with family members, friends and members of the public. If you think that Bowen is something you’re interested in learning, then contact Bowen Training Australia today by email or phone to secure your spot at the next round of Certificate IV courses, with one of the many nationally accredited instructors. Kinesiology: A Holistic Energetic Healing Modality

Originating in the 1970’s, Kinesiology is a non-invasive technique that combines the holistic health discipline of Traditional Chinese Medicine, with techniques such as Acupressure and many others. Kinesiology is a combination of ancient, eastern science and western muscle monitoring, which balances the body on many levels. Kinesiology works to enhance the body’s innate healing process to restore balance and health to an individual’s neurological and physiological function. With the use of muscle monitoring the practitioner is able to access information about a person’s well-being. Muscle monitoring involves challenging the bio-feedback mechanism present in all muscles to reveal imbalances within the body. The muscle response may show stress within the physical, mental, emotional, energetic or nutritional systems of the body. Any stress present within the system is indicating an imbalance on a deeper level that requires correction. The goal of any Kinesiology ‘balance’ is to identify the bottom-line cause of the imbalance and resolve it. While the cause may be nutritional, emotional, structural, psychological, energetic or even spiritual, it can even be something as simple as an ‘attitude’ or a forgotten memory. Through Kinesiology, profound changes may be experienced to increase a person’s health and well-being to an optimal level. As an additional qualification, Jenny is an Australian Bush Flower Essence (ABFE) practitioner and utilities this as a correction tool in her sessions when required, along with the use of other ‘balancing’ or ‘correcting’ tools, that assist in the Kinesiology session. As a Kinesiologist, there are many tools that practitioners can use when working with clients and these vary from one practitioner to another, depending on their area of specialty. Kinesiology can be effective in assisting such issues as:
• Fatigue
• Stress
• Depression/Anxiety
• Fears/Phobias
• Learning Difficulties
• Hormonal Imbalance
• Asthma and Allergies
• Behavioral Problems
• Relationship Issues
• Physical Pain, and much, much more

It can also help enhance personal development and lifestyle to improve general well-being. Recommendations following a Kinesiology Treatment:
• Drink plenty of water and rest if required.
• Avoid caffeine, sugary foods and alcohol. Things to be aware of following a Kinesiology treatment:
• Emotional releasing — this can be a natural part of the healing
process. Just allow it to flow.
• Physical releasing — this can also be a natural part of the healing
process. Physical discomfort or changes may be felt during and
after a treatment. All responses experienced after a treatment can vary from quite subtle to profound, depending on the person and how their system reacts. These changes are all signs that the body is shifting as a result of the treatment and clearing past issues. Each Kinesiology session is as individual as the person being treated; therefore the responses can be just as varied. Qualifications:

Mr Charlie Bear, the resident Clinic dog (AKA my 3rd Child) who joins me at work eveyday greeting clents and finds the most inappropriate spots to lie in, had his first clip for Summer today. 3.5mths of his winter coat and he looks like a completely different dog. 😂
Can't say he loved his clip today, but with temps starting to hit 32°C, it's required. I trust by tomorrow he starts looking at me with loving eyes again. 🤣❤️🐶

Sciatica is a very common problem, but great that Bowen Therapy is an effective treatment for the condition.

🔊 SCIATICA

WHAT IS SCIATICA?

💡 Sciatica is the result of a neurological problem in the back or an entrapped nerve in the pelvis or buttock. There are a set of neurological symptoms such as:

➡️ Pain (intense pain in the buttock)
➡️ Lumbosacral radicular leg pain
➡️ Numbness
➡️ Muscular weakness
➡️ Gait dysfunction
➡️ Sensory impairment
➡️ Sensory disturbance
➡️ Hot and cold or tinglings or burning sensations in the legs
➡️ Reflex impairment
➡️ Paresthesias or dysesthesias and oedema in the lower extremity that can be caused by the irritation of the sciatic nerves (the lumbar nerve L4 and L5 and the sacral nerves S1,S2 and S3)

CAUSES OF PAIN

💡 Pain is a result of irritation of the sciatic nerve. it can be constant or intermittend. The pain may be worsened by certain movements like coughing or sneezing (these movements increase the intra abdominal pressure). Sitting, bending, prolonged standing or rising from a sitting position can aggravate or increase the pain.

PAIN PATTERNS

💡 In regards to relief the pain, the supine position decreases the pressure on the herniated disc and will subsequently decrease pain. Pain is located along the distribution of the nerve and can be felt in the back, buttocks, knee and leg. It only radiates to one side of the leg and can result in reduced power, reflexes and sensation in the nerve root. Also gait dysfunction (toe walking, foot drop and knee buckling), paresthesias or dysesthesias are frequent neurological symptoms.

SYMPTOMS BASED ON NERVE COMPRESSION

💡 Sciatica can be caused by the compression or irritation of nerve L4, L5, S1, S2 and S3. The sciatica symptoms depend on which nerve is compressed or irritated.

◾ L4: When the L4 nerve is compressed or irritated the patient feels pain, tingling and numbnessiIn the thigh. The patient also feels weak when straightening the leg and may have a diminished knee jerk reflex.

◾ L5: When the L5 nerve is compressed or irritated the pain, tingling and numbness may extend to the foot and big toes.

◾ S1: When the S1 nerve is compressed or irritated the patient feels pain, tingling and numbness on the outer part of the foot. The patient also experiences weakness when elevating the heel off the ground and standing on tiptoes. The ankle jerk reflex may be diminished.

Flip-flops are famously rough on the body and it's NOT just because they lack support. They encourage flexion of the toes (to hold the shoe to your foot) at a time in gait when you should be EXTENDING the toes. The result is compensation throughout the body, especially the neck.
