Buru Rehab has recently been featured in the National Indigenous Times, The West Australian and Business News, recognising the growing role of Indigenous businesses in rehabilitation projects across Western Australia 👏🏾

Business News reported that Buru Rehab holds six of the 16 rehabilitation projects awarded to Indigenous businesses, representing the largest share by project count and the second-largest share by value.

This recognition reflects the capability Buru continues to build across its projects, the strength of the team delivering the work and the opportunities being created for Indigenous businesses and workers across the rehabilitation sector.

Following the recent start of the 2026 rehabilitation campaign at Ellendale, Buru Rehab Director, Ben Latimore, was invited to speak at the Derby Kimberley Economic Forum in partnership with the Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration.

Ben shared how Buru’s Indigenous Engagement and Indigenous Trainee Program is being delivered at Ellendale, including the pathways being created for trainees and the partnerships supporting the work on site.

He also reflected on the recent Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony held with Bunuba and DMPE, and the importance of beginning the campaign with a strong cultural foundation.

The forum provided an opportunity to take the Ellendale story beyond the project itself and contribute to a broader conversation about what meaningful Indigenous engagement can look like in rehabilitation.

Thank you to DMPE and the Derby Kimberley Economic Forum for inviting Buru Rehab to be part of the discussion.

More than 18 months of rehabilitation earthworks at BHP Newman has given our team the opportunity to demonstrate what consistent, site-based delivery looks like.

Led by Project Manager Jane O’Neill, the team has continued to build strong project knowledge and deliver reliable rehabilitation works since January 2025.

That delivery has also been supported through collaboration with local Indigenous business Katu Mungat, who has provided fitter services to the project.

With new equipment recently added to the fleet, Buru Rehab is continuing to invest in the people, partnerships and capability needed to support quality rehabilitation earthworks at Newman into the future.

We are proud of what the team has achieved and the strong foundations they continue to build on site.

A new season is underway at Buru’s Ellendale rehabilitation project.

With six trainees stepping into their first roles on site, the team marked the beginning of the season with a smoking ceremony held in June, alongside a number of cultural activities.

This is an important project for our team and one that brings together rehabilitation work, local opportunity and working on Country with respect.

We’re looking for a Heavy Mobile Plant Trainer & Assessor to join our Ellendale Rehabilitation Project, supporting our operators and helping guide the next group of Aboriginal trainees as they begin their careers on site.

We’re also looking for an experienced HD Fitter to join our Pilbara team and help keep our heavy mobile plant fleet running safely and reliably.

Ellendale is a former diamond mine located 130km east of Derby along the Gibb River Road. Buru Rehab is proud to be undertaking the rehabilitation works on this site and others across WA.
Working on Country, Healing Country, and Restoring the land.
🟡 15 days on, 6 days off roster
🟡 FIFO from Perth or Broome | DIDO options available
🟡 Rehab Dozer Operators – experience on D8, D9 or D10 (rehab exp essential)
🟡 Excavator & All Rounder Operators – Production digger (50T) and/ or rehab dozer
experience preferred with the addition of other machines (eg Loader, Grader)
🟡 Positions run from April – November (Dry season) though Buru has other projects we try to re-
deploy staff to where possible.
🟡 Close-knit crew of approx. 30 on site
🟡 All meals provided | Donga accommodation | On-site gym

🟡 2 weeks on, 1 week off roster | FIFO from Perth
🟡 Seeking a highly experienced operator with drill pad rehab experience (on steep terrain).
🟡 The role involves at times moving sites/locations, operating a 36T Excavator with GPS (Topcon)
🟡 Must hold a valid Drivers Licence & willing to undergo a pre-employment medical including a
mask fit (must be clean shaven)
🟡 Guidex experience desirable, along with 4WD Training, First-aid Certificate and BHP Inducted
applicants will be highly regarded.
