August is Family History Month!

Family History Month is a wonderful reminder to spend some time exploring the stories of our ancestors. Whether you're just starting your family tree or have been researching for years, there's always something new to discover.

As an accredited genealogist and practising researcher, I've been using AI alongside traditional research methods not as a replacement for evidence, but as another tool to help uncover family stories.
Over the past year, AI has helped me transcribe difficult handwriting, organise research, analyse records, create timelines and even overcome the occasional research brick wall. Like any research tool, it still requires careful evaluation, but I've found it to be a valuable assistant.

Those experiences inspired me to write The Genealogist's AI Field Manual 2026.

It's a practical guide written specifically for family historians who want to understand how AI can support their research while maintaining good genealogical standards.

If you've been curious about using AI in your own family history, I hope this book gives you the confidence to explore what's possible.

After many months of research, writing, and refinement, I’m pleased to share that my new book, The Genealogist’s AI Field Manual 2026, is now available on Amazon.
This project brings together my work in genealogy, archival research, and emerging AI tools, with a focus on practical, ethical, and structured research workflows.
I’m grateful for the support and conversations that helped shape it, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it supports researchers and family historians navigating this new space.

Victoria, Australia, Apprentice History Cards, 1913-1976 has now been released on Ancestry. The best way to find this is via the Card Catalogue search for 'Apprentice'.
I have just found the full record for my uncle. Wonderful to see.
