The richness of our history and the vision for our future inspires our team to create wines that tell a different side of the Rutherglen story. Known for Vintage Port and fortified wine, we are blessed to have many unusual and rare varieties, carefully nurtured by the Viticulture team. Our vineyards produce outstanding fruit from 90-year-old Shiraz vines and established Durif, Muscat and Portugues

e varieties Tinto Cao, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional. More recently planted to suit our climate and soils are the exciting varieties of Alvarinho, Arinto, Antoã Vaz, Souzão and Touriga Franca. Internationally awarded Muscats, Topaques and Vintage Fortifieds sit alongside exciting new table wines including The Prince Iberian Blend and, in exceptional vintages, individual expressions of our special varieties such as Tempranillo and Touriga Nacional. The sought-after Jack’s Block Shiraz is made when nature permits and our traditional Rutherglen reds, Shiraz and Durif, display a generous palate.

Lovely write-up from w**e columnist Richard Calver after our sold-out Vintage Fortified Masterclass at the W**emakers of Rutherglen Rutherglen in the City in Canberra! Wendy hosted a small group through a tasting of our 2022, 2005 and 1995 Vintage Fortifieds, showcasing how these w**es evolve and develop over time.

We loved being part of such an intimate tasting experience with Canberra VP fans. Thanks for having us and thank you Richard for the kind words!

"This is not a 'blow-to-the-head' w**e at 18.5% ABV, albeit not a w**e you’d skull. It had a lovely cassis-filled palate and a hint of spice at the finish," writes w**e columnist RICHARD CALVER.

Our 2026–2027 Vintage Fortified allocation is now open.

Each year we release a limited number of our Vintage Fortified w**es, including rare older vintages from the cellar and our brand new 2024 release. It's a w**e made to age, built from traditional Portuguese varieties and matured slowly here in Rutherglen, and it only gets better with time.

This year's allocation includes milestone vintages going all the way back to 1990's, held in very limited numbers.

This is the story of those w**es, the new release that joins them, and the way we have chosen to share th...

Think you know your w**e? On Sunday 9th August, the S&K Speakeasy is putting your palate to the test with a blind tasting where the labels come off and your senses do the talking.

Could you pick a Shiraz from a Durif with your eyes closed? Tell a Rutherglen Muscat from one grown a few hundred kilometres away? Know how the same grape can taste like two different w**es depending on the soil it grew in?

Come find out. It's a blind tasting like no other: a curated flight of mystery w**es from Rutherglen and beyond, and no clues to lean on. Just you, your senses, and the quiet confidence that you might just know your w**e better than the person next to you.

Wendy Killeen and w**emaker Adriaan Foot will guide you through the lineup, pouring w**es designed to challenge everything you think you can taste. Old World or New? Same grape, different region? The sharpest palate of the night takes home the prize.

There'll be light snacks, good company and plenty of friendly competition. Whether you've been collecting for decades or you're just curious how your tastebuds measure up, step inside and see what you can uncover.

In 1921, a 26-year-old returned soldier named Jack Stanton planted a block of Shiraz on his newly acquired Rutherglen estate. He built the w**ery himself using second-hand materials from a defunct gold mine and whatever timber he could find on the property. He worked those vines through the Great Depression, through drought, through decades of change in the Australian w**e industry. Jack never missed a vintage until the last few years of his life. He lived to 94.

The vines he planted are still producing. They are now over 100 years old, making them among the oldest Shiraz vines in Rutherglen. And the w**e they make, Jack's Block Shiraz, is released only in the best vintages, only when we consider it truly worthy of the name.

This month we are celebrating that legacy with a full range of Jack's Block w**es available, from the elegant 2023 through to a handful of very rare older releases. Head to the link below to read the full story and shop the range.

Its been about a decade in the making, and after much research, planning and a Climate Smart grant from NECMA (North East Catchment Management Authority), the sustainability stars finally aligned for us to plant our three shelter belts on the farm 🍃

A huge thank you to NECMA and our awesome team who made this biodiversity dream a reality, getting over 1500 plants into the ground over the last few weeks 🌳

If you're a landholder looking to do a similar project, check out this guide from NECMA: https://www.necma.vic.gov.au/About-Us/Publications/Plans-and-Guides/Healthy-Catchments-Information-Kit and these wonderful resources from Sustainable Farms: https://www.sustainablefarms.org.au/

Do you have Portuguese heritage? It's a question we get asked all the time at the cellar door, and the answer is no.

It comes down to a shared love of a w**e style. Chris Killeen (6th gen) and Wendy Killeen adored Portuguese Port. The varieties they planted together in the 1990s, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, Tinto Cão and more, now shape some of our most loved w**es including The Prince and Terra Mãe.

We've put together the full story of how these varieties came to call Rutherglen home and what makes each one special. Read it on our blog. Find the link in the comments.

From Tinta Roriz to Alvarinho, discover the Portuguese varieties growing in our Rutherglen vineyard, and the story of why we grow them.
