Over the past six months myself and my business Woolgoolga Computers and IT have been the subject of a deliberate and coordinated attempt by a local competitor to misappropriate my business identity.

This included:
The registration of my trading name,
An attempt to claim my Google Business profile, and the creation of other fake profiles in the same name,
Numerous AI generated ‘legal’ notices demanding I stop trading under MY own name used since 2020,
Agreement to sell me back the very Business name that I was using… and then reneging on that agreement,
An attempt to register my own name with IP Australia as a trademark in order to force me to cease using it!
Threats to my livelihood,
Threats that they would ‘bury’ my business,
Personal attacks incorrectly demeaning my living conditions,
The list goes on!
… all commencing the early hours of the morning and continuing for some months.

However, I am still offering honest, reliable, and trustworthy computer and IT services, based on an extensive professional, technical and ethical background.

I want the community to know that I take my reputation and my customers seriously.

If you have had concerns about any local IT service provider providing questionable service, installing unwanted or illegal software, and have difficulty with obtaining your own property, I highly encourage you to check your software accounts, ensure your data and equipment is secure, and contact NSW Fair Trading or NSW police if you have experienced any issues.

I am aware of a person falsely - still - claiming to represent themselves as my business on Government registries and Facebook.

As Woolgoolga Computers and IT, I have traded here for many years and am taking legal and regulatory action.

Previous customers with warranty and support issues may contact the other person to take up their claim as he is now theoretically the registered holder of the business. Any legal elections/claims should be taken to this individual in the first instance.
However - I continue to advertise and operate in the local area offering my usual excellent professional and affordable IT service.

As good as these older computers are, running Windows 10 now will become more and more a security risk for your data.
I’m currently seeing customers who have had previous IT service on their computer, with poor security efforts installed such as antivirus and old versions of Windows 10, which are in no way capable of managing security needs in the modern environment.
If you would like to know how to safely and securely keep your computer environment contemporary, with the necessary and industry standard methods and best practices – which seem to be ignored in a number of cases that I’m seeing – please get in touch with me Woolgoolga Computers.

Don’t get stuck with a technician who recommends you stay with Windows 10 and that antivirus will save you – it will not. Windows 10 is now unsupported by Microsoft and no further security updates will be rolled out.

Using an unpatched operating system directly exposes your personal finances and private data to theft.

Continuing to use Windows 10 means your operating system no longer receives security patches from Microsoft.

While a VPN hides your location and antivirus software looks for known "bad files," neither can fix the underlying code of the Windows system itself.

Computers showing up recently where Windows 10 is installed and people have not upgraded to Windows 11.

Windows 10 is no longer supported by Microsoft and security updates are no longer rolling out. This makes the system unsafe to use personal data, especially on the Internet.

There’s a correct method and pathway to upgrading to Windows 11. Particularly important if you want to keep the integrity of your data and your programs, and get a verifiable receipt and proof of work - and get your machine back promptly and on time! Here the risks become apparent - Windows 11 has not updated for one and a half years and yet checking Windows update, the report says that Windows is up-to-date!

Workshop Update: "Unverified" Windows 11 Upgrades Can Fail

Yesterday I came across a PC system which had had Windows 11 forcefully installed onto a non-compatible A3 – seventh generation CPU machine.
Sadly this is false economy - Windows 11 has distinct hardware requirements to run safely and properly.
Windows 10 has become redundant and security and update patches will no longer be rolled out automatically.

The result? The system was stuck on version 23H2, that is a 2023 rollout - unable to process critical security updates, and was suffering from significant stability issues.

The Lesson:
Just because a computer can run an OS doesn't mean it should. Forced upgrades often:
• Block essential Windows Update paths.
• Create driver conflicts that slow down your daily work.
• Leave your data vulnerable because security patches won't install.

Since 2016, I have seen many "workarounds" that eventually lead to system failure. My job at Woolgoolga Computers & I.T. is to ensure your machine is not just running, but is stable and secure.

A quick hint  for everyone over the holiday period:
Backing up your data is important — but so is the health of the drive you’re backing up to.

I often find that people assume backup drives they’ve had for 5–10 years are still reliable because they power on and appear to work. In reality, older drives can:
• develop bad sectors
• suffer silent data corruption
• fail without warning when you actually need them

A backup is only useful if the data can be restored and the drive storing it is still healthy.
Professionals know about data loss but also prevention of this and there are industry standards to deal with this - a competent IT person should be describing solutions rather than generic AI junk which just makes you worry (using fear, uncertainty, and doubt – a known sales tactic).

With many many years of data management experience, I can and do provide honest expert advice based on years of technical experience — no sales pressure, no AI fact guessing, no errors with data loss —-
