Beware these “budget priced” blades/brands. This one has no brand name at all, just has “Wide” engraved on the comb. Unfortunately there has been a flood of these cheap brands entering the market over the last 2-3 years, and they just keep appearing!
Many of these blades LOOK just like any of the mainstream breads, but they are absolutely not. The most glaring problem is that the hardware (spring and socket on RHS of photo) are woefully poor quality and usually have to be replaced at their first sharpening. There goes a significant part of the money saved at purchase time. Next the cutters are often inferior ceramic material which does not respond well to sharpening, and often has to be replaced with a decent steel cutter. There goes more of the “saving”. Lastly the combs are usually made from an inferior alloy and do not sharpen up as well and predictably as a decent quality comb.
That doesn’t leave much to like about these blades! Just the seductive price.
As they say “if something if too good to be true……”
The market place can be confusing because there are new brands appearing all the time and making bold promises.
I recommend sticking with the established mainstream brands for blades (and scissors), and if in doubt ask your sharpener. Most sharpeners will have experience with just about every available brand and hopefully provide an honest recommendation…. or “beware of” response.
