You read that right – soft plastics recycling is back!

Your clean and dry soft plastics can now be dropped off to the dedicated soft plastic recycling bins located at the front of all metropolitan Woolworths stores in South Australia.

In partnership with Soft Plastics Stewardship Australia (SPSA), these soft plastics will be recycled into new products such as building materials and food grade packaging, helping to create a circular economy.

If you can't access one of these locations, soft plastics should only be placed in your red/blue landfill bin – never in your yellow recycling bin or green organics bin.

🔋 Small battery. Big responsibility.

Button batteries are found in more everyday items than you might think, including car keys, toys, thermometers, watches and hearing aids.

Because they’re small, they can easily be forgotten, left loose around the home or stored incorrectly. That's why safe handling matters. But taking a few simple steps can make a big difference.

✔ Keep them out of reach of children
✔ Store used batteries safely
✔ Drop them off at a B-cycle collection point when they’re ready for recycling

Taping used button batteries keeps children safer and reduces fire risks.

Every battery safely collected is one less battery creating unnecessary fire and ingestion risk.

The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) is calling for businesses to have heightened awareness around persons offering to provide discounted waste tyre transport services.

These offers could come in the form of a cold call to a commercial business offering to provide waste tyre transport services for a reduced fee or being contacted to provide storage facilities. The EPA is concerned that the tyres are being disposed of illegally.

Further information on the correct way to undertake waste tyre transport and disposal can be obtained from the EPA website or by contacting the EPA directly.

🧯💥🔥Gas bottles are a serious hazard faced by our truck drivers and material recovery facility (MRF) operators. One MRF has reported receiving TWO PER HOUR at their facility!🧯💥🔥

The compaction of pressurized gas canisters can result in fire or explosion, making them a serious safety hazard.

This includes butane cylinders for camping stoves, gas canisters for balloons, fire extinguishers, BBQ gas bottles and more.*

❗️If the gas bottle still contains gas, it should be taken to a local hazardous waste depot to be degassed safely. Do NOT attempt to do this at home.

If the gas bottle is empty, disposal options vary depending on the type. Options include:

✔️ Gas Swap schemes (e.g. at a local petrol station)
✔️ Dropping off to your local hazardous waste depot, even if the canister is empty
✔️ Returning to the manufacturer
✔️ Recycling through a local scrap metal recycler

♻️ Note, household non-butane aerosol cans (deodorant, spray paint etc.) are not considered hazardous if empty and can go into the normal recycling bin.

The rule for the green FOGO bin is '𝙄𝙛 𝙞𝙩 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙨 - 𝙞𝙩'𝙨 𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙜𝙤!'
Anything that once grew can be composted through your green FOGO bin this includes;
💚 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘀: all fruit, veg, meat, dairy, bones, seafood, coffee grounds, tea leaves and paper tea bags, egg shells, mouldy bread
💚 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲: lawn clippings, weeds, cut flowers, small prunings/branches (≤15 cm × 60 cm), sawdust
💚 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿 & 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱:: egg cartons, pizza boxes, compostable food packaging, paper straws, tissues & paper towel, shredded paper/post-it notes and newspaper
💚 𝗢𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀: bamboo cutlery, compostable cups, compostable kitchen caddy liners, pet waste (in compostable bag/newspaper)
