You just need to think outside the square and be open to taking on more risk.

Communication is the number one skill in business.

Tell me I’m wrong.

Communicating what differentiates you from your competitors is how to attract the right people through your marketing.

Communicating why someone should work with you now, instead of later, is how to make the sale today.

Communicating your desired outcome with your team and suppliers is how to get amazing work from them.

Communicating with your customers when something goes wrong is how you retain a loyal client.

Communicating your pitch or ask is how you make big moves.

It’s why so much of what I work with my clients on is communication.

Words.

The words you use make or cost you money.

Words matter.

Yes, I’m an accountant. But mostly I’m a business strategist who loves words.

Words are how business strategies actually happen.

Profit is not a dirty word.

It’s not greedy.

It’s good business.

But it’s no wonder so many small business owners feel conflicted about the word profit.

Big business is gouging us. Making record profits. Driving the cost of living up.

But in small business, profit is a great sign that your brand, your offers and the way you spend your money are all working well.

Don’t let the greedy end of town warp your view of profit. Being profitable is always a good thing in small business 🤌🏼

The solution to all problems in business.

But there’s skill and strategy behind being able to outsource and get great results.

Dara from BYZANTINE DESIGN - MELBOURNE TILE SHOWROOM explains that she no longer calls it outsourcing. It’s now called collaborating.

She has a shared responsibility for the results she hires specialists to get for her.

And it’s working.

Dara is great at managing her money, including how she invests in collaborators.

That doesn’t stop her mind from trying to convince her she’s bad with money. Even as a million dollar business owner she has to “give herself a good talking to” sometimes.

Not all debt is bad.

Some debt helps you to expand your business.

Some debt is a little risky but you’ve made a calculated decision.

And then there’s messy debt, which is really hard to pay off. It’s a credit card or ATO debt that crept up over time and feels impossible to pay down.

Messy debt exists in your business because you’ve been spending outside of your means. The only way out is by spending within your means, and with a plan to pay it down while staying permanently profitable.

It was shot in 2023 by the incred Jarni - Creative Videography & Photography as part of a campaign called Businessing. That campaign was my rally cry to small business. A call to inspire them to make more money.

And show them how.

Tomorrow I shoot my third brand campaign.

My biggest one yet.

I’m terrified and excited.
