2024 Payne’s Rise ‘Brody’s Block’ Pinot Noir/Syrah, Yarra Valley.
Aitken chose this wine for his top six wines on the day, describing “an incredibly lifted and aromatic example of a pinot/shiraz blend that clearly lets the shiraz take the lead in the best way possible. It’s bursting with a basket of forest berries – think fresh blueberries and smashed blackberries – shot through with cracks of black pepper and a cooling menthol lift. The mid-palate is pure silk, transitioning into a spicy, energetic finish that makes you want to immediately go back for a second sip. The kind of wine that’s best enjoyed with friends and good tunes.”
