A customer came into the print shop looking for short-grain A4 paper, which can be difficult to find.
The solution? Start with long-grain A3 paper and cut it in half.
The cut doesn’t change the grain direction itself. It changes the size and orientation of the sheet relative to the grain. The grain that ran parallel to the 420mm edge of the A3 now runs parallel to the 210mm edge of the A4, making it short grain.
The bonus? One ream of long-grain A3 gives you two reams of short-grain A4 😄
