“I need a new car but I have no idea what to get”

Sound familiar? Well, you’re not alone. Knowing you need a new car and knowing what kind of new car you need are two very different things. Often, people will delay purchasing a new car because they don’t have enough spare time to dedicate to the process. Others make the mistake of rushing into a decision and end up paying too much or driving a car that doesn’t meet their needs. So, how can you avoid the hazards of car buying? Research.

Research is the first, and most important, step in the car buying process. And, it doesn’t always have to be time-consuming. In this blog post, we’ll take you through some of the resources available to help make the research process easier for you.

Get Online Before Buying a Car

The internet is your best friend when it comes to car research. While there are still a number of printed publications available like wheels magazine, online resources generally have the most up-to-date and wide-ranging information available. Best of all, these sites are free to access and designed to be user-friendly. Our top three sites for car research are:

CarsGuide – What car should I buy – A simple search tool that allows you to select your budget, the condition of the car and which car suits your lifestyle (city, off-road, family, ute etc)

Carsales – This comprehensive research section features a latest news section, and an option to compare detailed specifications of almost any car available in Australia.

Drive – This site has detailed new car reviews making it particularly useful if you are looking to buy a brand new car.

How to get the Best Deal when Buying Your Next Car

Getting the best deal when buying a new car can be a lot easier if you go through a car broker who can tender for you and open up fleet pricing not normally available for retail buyers.

If you plan to buy through a dealership, visit at least three and ask for an all-inclusive drive-away quote (ie one that includes dealer fees, stamp duty, registration etc). Let the salesperson know if you plan on trading in your existing car so they can deduct the value of the trade-in from the quote.

If you are buying a new car privately, be wary of cars that seem too cheap. Like most things in life, if it seems too good to be true, it often is! Always value the car onlinebefore arranging an inspection. Once you meet the seller be sure to ask plenty of questions. When you have a better idea of the car’s condition you can negotiate on price. And remember, if you don’t have the time or the energy to buy a new car on your own, call in the professionals! Car brokers like Your Buyer are committed to finding you the very best deal on your new car. Your Buyer can also help you find the right car for YOU.
