WOMEN MAKING WAVES 🌊 | Inspiring the next generation
Recently, Bossy Boots had the absolute pleasure of inviting five talented young female athletes from Sunshine Coast Grammar School’s ROAR Sporting Program to join us at Women Making Waves at Alex Surf Club.
What an afternoon.
We heard from some of Australia’s most accomplished female athletes — Olympic champion Cate Campbell OAM, Australian Diamonds Captain Liz Watson, Australian Jillaroos, Queensland and Brisbane Broncos Captain Ali Brigginshaw, along with a special appearance from Olympic swimmer Lani Pallister OAM OLY.
I attend a lot of lunches and speaking events through Bossy Boots, but this was genuinely one of the most insightful and relevant I’ve attended — particularly for young women coming through the ranks of high-performance sport.
The conversations around resilience, leadership, pressure, setbacks, sacrifice and what it actually takes to perform at the highest level were incredibly honest. For these five young athletes, being able to sit in that room and hear directly from women who have travelled the path they are now beginning was pretty special.
The girls represented themselves and Sunshine Coast Grammar beautifully. We were also incredibly fortunate to have Sunshine Coast Lightning Head Coach Belinda Reynolds join us at our table, giving the girls another opportunity to listen, ask questions and connect with a woman leading at the highest level of Australian sport.
At Bossy Boots, we believe strongly in supporting and creating opportunities for the next generation of young women. Sometimes that simply means using the opportunities and connections we have to give them a seat at the table.
Because you never know which conversation, piece of advice or person they meet might help shape where they go next.
A brilliant afternoon celebrating women in sport — and five inspiring young women who are only just beginning their own journeys. 🖤
